You probably have a SportPilot or SportPilot Plus. Neither were particulary great for larger boats or for trolling. They are really touchy. It seems once you get them setup right, they work alright, but the ones I used and friends were always breaking down. See if there is something near the fluxgate compass(what you are refering to as the gyro) that would be causing some sort of EMI (electromagnetic interference) when the boat makes its sudden turns. Anything electrical in close proxcimity to that compass will throw it off. Bilge pumps are notorious for it.

For the record I use, and have installed 4 more, Simrad AP14. In my opinion, the best AP on the market in its price range.

I installed the Simrad on my boat and another charter boat in our marina this year all i can say is i wish i had found it sooner . All the people that i know with the sportpilot or sportpilot plus have had trouble with them . But Ray marine did come up with a new unit this year i would wait till it's been tested on a few other boats JMO

I just installed this unit on my Penn Yan and i love it if you can make the room you will not regret it

Fished out of E.72nd today We got out about 12 went to 52 FOW to look for bigger fish .We took 18 fish they came on dipseys 3 setting 40 to 60 back larger and small stinger spoons ( anything bright with reds and yellows ) We also ran stick baits off the inline boards

Fished out 72nd today in 42- 48 FOW caught a 2 man limit in about 2 hours dipesys on the 3 setting 80 back with Crazy Ray colored stingers . Some of the fish were taken on 30 jets 100 feet back off the big boards Boy Girl spoons were hot too.

Im docked in Cleveland but can be found almost anyplace on Erie .The boat name is Hardwork and that's the handle i use so if you are ever on Erie and hear Hardwork on the radio more then likely it's me . Hello to everyone im here from Cleveland Ohio . I fish most of my time in the Central Basin of Erie out of Cleveland but you may find me anywhere on lake erie . I try to spend a little time on Lake Ontario each year

I just want everybody know that this is a OPEN TOURNNAMENT i've talked to people in the past that did not fish in it because they thought it was for charter boat captains .But it is open to anybody that wants to fish it .Hope to see some of you guys there
