  1. Levi,

Thanks for the update. Now all we need is some nice weather to actually fish!

Be nice if the coast guard or corp of eng. would put the bouys where they should actually be. They have not moved since the "dreadging" was done a few years ago.

Did anyone pull that "tree" out of the DNR launch site that was there at the end of the year last year in "bay one"?

Hope to see you soon on the lake.

  2. Rich,

Ben just walked down and told me that he was dating your daughter! Small world!!

I think I have the netcraft book at home, I might have most everything, except the rubber hose, I tie my own flies for steelhead and trout fishing.

We will need to get together. One night afterwork would be great.

Right now weekends are busy, I would like to hit the lake, but I am in the middle of a redoing my brothers house in Indiana, just found out he has cancer really bad, so big push to get it done, just in case!

I will give you a call, or get with Ben. This week I think is pretty much shot, but maybe/hopefully next.

Thanks, Look forward to meeting with you.

  3. Can anyone give me information on Handheld VHF marine radios?

Are they any good out on the big lake?

For a short time I am downsizing boats, selling the Islander and fishing with my Lund and thought a handheld might work better, space and antena wise.

But if they are useless out on the lake, will either get new stationary one or pull my Raymarine off the Islander.

    Any info would be great!

  4. GLF,

The Islander is what I have up for sale, but she was rigged nice.

4 Penn downriggers and 8 Tightloc rod holders, 2 in deck rod holders and 4 home made rod holders.

Usually run the 4 riggers, town the shoot eith high lines or copper, out the sides boards, lead or dipsys.

Will get the Lund posted this weekend, plan to fish St. Joe on Sat. Got her set up with 2 manual Rivieras out the back and 6 Tightlocs, figure 8 rods should be good, the Lund is good for maybe only 3 people.

Looking for something bigger. Did you get yours rigged this past weekend?

    We need to get together.

  5. So is anyone hitting the big lake this weekend?

I plan to hit St. Joe on Sat. am, weather permitting, Right now looks like wave action should be good. Hope the rain holds off.

If anyone is fishing, PM for my cell#, I do not have radio hooked up on my lund yet, that will be after the day fishing.

    Good luck everyone!

  7. Does anyone out there know of anyone that has a cannonball mold? I have a bunch of 5lb walleye weights and a ton of lead, that I would like to get melted down into some 12lb or 15 lb cannonballs.

    Thanks

  8. Just looked at the BBT website (Baldwin Bait & Tackle) as of this AM the river is pretty much blown out over the banks, be careful wading!! I would say it will be at least 4-5 days before the river is wadable!

I have been up there during blow out conditions, usually NO fish to be found and is not really safe wading, Boats are oK..

  9. Sea-Mac,

No, did not make it up, ended up only two of us could go out of the 8 normal group so desided to hit the Kazoo, I think the PM was in so-so shape over the weekend, should be pretty good this weekend if the rain holds off, we think we might try to get up there on either the 31st or 7th. The Kazoo should be fishing good by then as well.

  10. Fished the Kalamazoo River on Friday and Saturday, The Dam'ers were catching alot of walleyes still, but the steelie's were few and FAR between, Tried the dam for a while, then but the boat in, the river was dirty brown, fast and high, about 6-8 ft higher than normal. Fished from the boat for about 4 hours, not even a bump, bounced spawn and ran plugs, nothing moving.

Saturday fished from the boat, only got more walleyes and suckers. The river needs to drop and clear up, maybe by this weekend the steelies will be in.

  11. Thanks everyone for the welcome.

Rich, Right now I do have a 22' Islander, that I fish Lake Michigan with, I have it up for sale, Partially do to my main fishing partner, my dad, is just not into it that much at age 84, Plus I am looking for something bigger to replace with in the next year or so. Looking for a 28' Baha if you know of one, saw one from last year on the site, sent PM but no response if it is still avail.

I have a open invite with my buddie, Captain Doug Wiggins from Sportswidow charters in St Joe, so will not miss out on fishing. I also have a 16' Lund for those early calm days of coho, steelhead, brown and king fishing, when you only have to fish 15-45' fow. Look forward to seeing everyone on the lake.

Mike, we will have to get together soon.

  12. I am glad to have found this site. Looking forward to possiby fishing with a few of you.

I actually live in Cooper, MI, just south of Plainwell. Divorsed, no kids, just a dog. Have been fishing Lake MI for 30 years, mostly out of St. Joe, Grew up in Benton Harbor.

Have some buddies that I fish with and of course my Dad, except Dad is now 84 and really does not enjoy it like he use to. We use to fish ALL the time, now he is happy with one maybe two trips a year.

I also fish the St. Joe. Kalamazoo, and the PM rivers every year for the steelhead and king runs. Spring and fall trips for the last 30 years. Trying to get info on fishing the Paw Paw from our pontoons, to ad one more river.

Looking forward to talking with everyone.

  13. Planning our annual fishing trip to the PM, we arrive on the 14th, wondering if anyone has a current snow total up there! We camp back in the woods off 2 tracks with a 22' camper, so wondering if we can get off the road. Also if anyone knows what the river is like with all this snow melt? Is it fishable/floatable/wadable? Also if anyone has a report on the "mid-section". We usually fish from Gleasons to Upper Branch. Any info would be greatly apprecialted.

    Thanks

  15. I am more than ready, If snow melts around Baldwin, annual steelie trip is planned for next weekend the 15th-18th. We camp so need snow to be gone to get the trailer off the road and down the 2 tracks. Boat should be ready for the lake by the 24th, need to add a few things to make more "fishable" but ready as is if I do not find the time.
