Here are some before and after pics of a 13# brown my wife Christie caught in Lake Ontario off Oak Orchard in 2004. I just got around to mounting it for a taxidermy competition....it only took 4 years to get it done!

A first mate's pay is determined by his/her experience. A TOTAL rookie won't be paid anything and is usually required to run at least two trips alongside an actual mate to see what's going on. Once I "hire" them they start at $50 plus tips. First year mates just drive and scrub the boat. I'm a picky SOB when it comes to the back of the boat so that's my turf until the mate has a full year's experience and then his work in the back of the boat is limited to reeling in leadcores and putting out divers. After the first year the mate gets $60 plus tips.
If I have another captain mating for me I will pay him/her $60 plus tips and usually buy breakfast. Generous huh?

I run a lot of "doubles" which consist of an 8 hour and then a 4 hour evening. It requires a little bit of pre-planning but I try to make my trips to the gas dock on the less crowded week days--usually evenings. Having a 250 gallon tank helps too.
Under NO circumstances will I fuel my boat with clients on board.

Thanks Mike. I'm with Charter Lakes right now but my premium seems rather high and I just want to get some quotes from other reliable, good-to-deal with companies.

What do you captains do for charter insurance? How much liability? Who do you use for a carrier?
