Fishing Report

Good numbers of chinook and lake trout have been taken along the bank and near the Saddle. Lures to try are green Hoochies and flies, or blue and green Dolphins.

Good catches of chinook, steelhead, and lake trout have been taken near Point Betsie and out near Six Mile hole. The best catches have been before the sun is up or well after sunset in 120 to150 feet of water, 60 to 90 feet down. Good lures have been the Angry Gnome, orange and blue Chilly Willies, blue Spin Doctors or purple Hoochies. Pier fishing has been very slow with water temperatures staying around 75 degrees. At Crystal Lake, good numbers of lake trout are being caught on the south end, and both Lower and Upper Herring continue to produce good catches of pan fish.

Salmon fishing has been great with many anglers having limit catches of chinook. Salmon are large with many up to 28 pounds being taken. Try fishing the west side of South Manitou Island or off Pyramid Point.

Fishing has been very good. Salmon are being caught off the first bank and on the north side of North Manitou Island. Try using blue spin doctors with flies or spoons like a bloody nose, double orange crush or an Easter egg. Many salmon are being taken on meat rigs. Lake trout and steelhead fishing has been excellent.

Lake trout fishing continues to be good to excellent on both Bays. Willow Point, the South Bank, Yuba, and Elk Rapids produced the most action on the East Bay. The White Walls and around Marion Island were the best areas on the West Bay. Anglers trolled spoons, cowbells, and flies in green, blue, or silver combinations, in waters 90 to 130 feet deep with lures placed 30 to 40 feet down. Smallmouth bass action was fair to good on the West Bay along the Old Mission Peninsula. Anglers had the best success casting tube jigs, spider grubs, rattletraps, and spinner baits to boulders and gravel areas along the shoreline.

Salmon are being taken in 110 to130 feet of water fishing 57 to 75 feet deep on spoons and flies. Lake trout are being caught near the bottom off South Point and North Point.

Salmon are being caught in less than 100 feet of water and the best fishing has been in the top 40 feet using spoons.

Salmon are being taken in 70 to 110 feet of water fishing 40 to 70 feet down from one quarter mile north to 1 mile south of the port. Best colors are lemon ice, silver with orange and blue dolphin. Muskegon Lake is producing good catches of smallmouth bass on leaches and crawlers. Bluegill fishing is good along the coastline of the lake in 6 to 12 feet of water using wax worms, worms and bits of crawlers. The east end of the lake is good for walleye during the day using spinners and crawlers.

Salmon fishing is good using spoons off downriggers set 50 to 70 feet down in 70 to 85 feet of water. Dolphin colors worked best. A few fish were taken on dipsey divers with green glow, spin doctors and orange flies. Good numbers of lake trout and steelhead have been caught while trolling in waters 70 to 80 feet deep and 50 to 60 feet down. Perch fishing is good just north of the north pier in 15 to 25 feet of water while fishing just off the bottom with minnows. Pier fishing is slow with some small perch and freshwater drum being taken.

Walleye are being taken in 10 to 15 feet of water using minnow baited jigs on the east side of the lake.

Although fishing has slowed, a few pan fish are being caught out from shore just past the weed line in deeper water using light colored jigs baited with pieces of worms.

Is still producing good catches of pan fish, bass, and a few walleye in the early morning or late evening. A few larger perch are also starting to be caught near the channel.

Walleye fishing has slowed. Smallmouth bass fishing continues to do well with the angling pressure spread throughout the entire lake. Anglers are casting tubes, beaver tails, flukes, leeches, sinkos, spinners and rapalas in 10 to 20 feet of water. Those drifting and trolling for bass have been fishing in 10 to 30 feet of water using jigs, crawler harnesses and rapalas. Sizes range from 10 to 17 inches. Perch have been caught using minnows and crawlers in 14 to 30 feet of water in Raspberry Bay, near Dutchman's Bay Public Access, near the city of East Jordan in the south arm and near Boyne City Harbor. Sizes range from 4 to 8 inches.

Perch are biting early in the morning by Treasure Island and North Sunken Island. Lake trout can be found in 80 to 100 feet of water. Best baits are spoons and body baits. Rock bass can be found along the drop off. Smallmouth bass are hanging around Treasure Island and South Sunken Island.

Walleye fishing continues to be good with limits being taken. Those trolling are fishing south of Point Au Gres in 35 feet of water. Fishing is slow in the Au Gres River.

Fishing in the bay is still slow. Pier fishing is also slow, with a few rock bass and small perch taken.

Lake trout are being taken in waters 100 to 130 feet deep using dodgers and Spin-n-Glows close to the bottom. Anglers report fair success for catfish and walleye fishing at night with the best baits being leeches and crawlers.

While the action has slowed, the best fishing for chinook, lake trout and steelhead is north towards Forty Mile Point fishing in 70 to 120 feet of water and 120 to 150 feet of water using downriggers 40 to 90 feet down. Good lures have been silver streaks, yellowtail, pink alewife, green alewife, black screwball, triple green, black raspberry, blue dolphin, green dolphin and fire tiger with flies, squid or cut bait behind them.

Boats trolling to the north or out from the Ocqueoc River mouth are catching chinook salmon and a few lake trout while trolling with spoons, squids and dodgers with flies.

Chinook salmon and a few lake trout are being taken straight out along the channel in 60 to 100 feet of water.

Walleye fishing remains good off all ports from Au Gres to Quanicassee at all of the usual locations using both crawler harnesses and Hot-n-Tots. A few perch and channel catfish are being taken around H Buoy and in the Hot Ponds. Largemouth bass are being caught in the lower Saginaw River and Wildfowl Bay in 6 feet of water on plastic worms.
