Beautiful morning but slow fishing. Tried meat rigs, flasher flies, standard spoons, Mag spoons, glow, no glow. Various colors. Just couldn’t get anything else going. Pulled lines at 9 am. slowboyspoon Posted June 29 Posted June 29 We were out this morning as well and put 1 in the box. Freeslider on the downrigger down 70 in 85 fow. Marked some other fish but no takers. Used copper, leadcore, meat rigs, flasher / flies, and spoons. You're right it was a beautiful morning and the fishing was definitely slow. 3
littleboat Posted June 29 Posted June 29 Tough fishing, hopefully July will improve.Sent from my SM-A156U1 using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App 2
Jolly Time Posted June 29 Posted June 29 Was out this morning as well. Tried 120-140 with plenty of marks but just tough to get anything to bite. Water temp at 103ft. Downwas 48.9 degrees. Thermocline is at 63ft. and 59 degree water. Nothing good happens with those conditions. At 9:30am slipped out to 170fow. Marked a lot of fish from 25-50 feet down. Ran a complete steelhead program on port side of boat. Took 4 hits and landed one steelhead. Rough! 3
SeaFoam Posted June 29 Author Posted June 29 Good thinking with the steelhead program. It was a challenge this morning Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman 1
SeaFoam Posted June 29 Author Posted June 29 Just curious, other than targeting higher in the water column what do you run for Steelhead? Super slims? Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman 1

FBD Posted June 30 Posted June 30 Had a kid's tournament Saturday, out of about 70 kids I think there were less than ten salmon and trout weighed. Many boats gave up early and ran into Mac to fish for sheep as it was an all species thing. Two kings in the 14-15 pound range weighed. So yeah pretty ugly on Saturday. 2
zgrinder on Fin Warrior Posted June 30 Posted June 30 With the water this warm, I like to move out and run in 175 FOW. If solo, either two high baits and one deep rigger around 90' or vice versa. My favorite high line lure for SH and sometimes kings is MS mag RV Atomic Melon. 2
Reel-y-hooked Posted June 30 Posted June 30 Tough fishing up north in Pentwater too. Not marking many fish and when we mark them they do not seem to be hungry. Missed 2 and boated 1 dandy king on a meat rig Sunday morning. Beautiful boat ride though. 4
Big Red 2 Posted July 1 Posted July 1 We ran north out of Whitehall Sat morning and were 2 for 3 w a 12lb king and a 6lb coho. All hits came on Hypnotist fly 60 ft down on dipsy w spin doctor in 120-140 ft of water. Gorgeous morning. 4
