1. Start early. I like to have all my lines in by one hour before official sunrise time. Early bite is usually easiest time to catch fish.

2. Head south. best results at Steelheaders tournament yesterday were from people fishing around Saugatuck. I've struggled a bit lately because I haven't made it as far south as I would like. I pick up an early hit and can't force my self to get away from the area soon enough to get south.

3. I've been able to pick up steelhead in 160-190 fow from mid-morning on.

4. If you happen to be out Wed or Thurs give me a shout out on 68.

Alright I know everybody has a different opinion but here is what I'm dealing with what kinda changes should I make, I know I need dual pole holders for riggers and I'm thinking about cutting down the giant riggers on the sides because it makes it difficult to run dypsys on the side. I need to know what an experienced guy would do.

Don't feel too bad...If those skunky trips have come recently you are not alone. We fished from 35 fow to 210 fow this Saturday and went 2 for 5...And we were in the Steelheaders tournament. I think we finished 16 out of 17 boats. It was a tough weekend at the southern end of the lake. You may want to talk to some guys that really know how to fish lake trout just to get some action going.

Just to echo what has already been said, it has been tough fishing out there this year. I've been at it now for more than a decade and have not come home with an empty box in years - that is until this year.

I remember how you feel. Back when I started, everyone use to talk on the radio and it sure seemed like we were doing the same stuff everyone else was and everyone was catching fish but us. But hang in there, it will get better and this is some of the most exciting fishing around.

All of that said, the best advice is to find someone who can show you the little things that make a deference. There are some good fishermen on this web site who will be more than happy to help you.
