New to Michigan, Please Help!!

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I recently moved to Michigan and camping/fishing is one of my favorite things to do so it looks like I've come to the right place. I'm having trouble finding a good quiet camping/fishing site and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

I live near the East side of the state so Lake Huron is where I plan on doing most of my fishing. No boat so I'll be shore fishing wherever I go.

Any suggestions?

Welcome Red! Do you have any specific species of fish you are really interested in? You posted in the Great Lakes Fishing area, but the state offers opportunities for everything from bigger fish like salmon, trout, and walleye to perch, sm mouth & lg mouth bass, pike, panfish... The what and where is mainly determined by the season and water temperatures.

Without a boat, I would look into getting a set of waders. You can use them in the many rivers or to get to spots you normally couldn't on small lakes... even "surf" fishing on the Great Lakes. Another option to widen your choices is to rent a boat at many of the lakes in the state or a canoe for rivers.

Red, A warm :welcome: to GLF. The Saginaw Bay offers a lot of good walleye fishing. Right now it's river systems offer some pretty good shore fishing opportunities. There are some nice campgrounds in Bay City, Linwood, AuGres, Standish, and Tawas. I'll be cranking up the action out of AuGres soon. I fish a lot and I'd welcome you aboard the Priority1. Limits of walleye are the norm. I have met some real nice folks sharing trips with people on this site.

There are also a quite a few Charter Boats that fish the Saginaw Bay. Trophy Specialist posts his results here. There are also a few Charters that go out of Northport near AuGres and a quite a few that fish out of Linwood.

Red, if you're looking for a reasonable way to get on the water I would look around for a kayak that you can set up for fishing. I'd be happy to send you pics of my setup along with rigging help.

Red,

If you're up to a trip to the west side, Manistee has a lot to offer! Big and little Manistee rivers for trout and the salmon when they're running, and (I didn't tell you this) but really nice walleye can be had out of the river by the boat launch and pier at night... :-)

If I wasn't 4000 miles away, I wouldn't be donating that information! Lmao

Good luck!
