Hope the guy recovers okay from the fire. I also hope that too many boats will not have burned up, couldn't imagine watching all of my stuff go up in flames.

I feel for those people whose boats were in there. We all know how bad we are chomping at the bit to get the boats out and going, to get a call that the boat is damaged or destroyed would be terrible.

I just hope the injured man is OK. Boats and equipment can be replaced.

The article also said some boats suffered from water damage, kinda wondering how that happens?

Doors to the cabins open and they pump em full of water. Plug in the boat, batteries disconnected means no bilge pumps.

I kinda doubt that any bilge pumps could keep up with huge fire hoses, but, I'm glad no one else was hurt, and hope for a fast recovery on this fellow. Closed-in areas without ventilation, on a boat with possible fumes in the air, is no place to light a torch. I've heard of soldering wire, but not torching it. Should have waited till launched, or call an electrician imho.

Lots of us use a small torch for heat shrink. However I also have a flammable gas detector that I use in enclosed spaces before I would light one.

that is exactly what I thought about when I heard the story. I myself use a small torch pen (very small, but still has a flame) to shrink tube around wire connections. I've done it a hundred times...will definately think about making sure there is fresh air for sure after reading this story.
