braid high divers

Recommended Posts

Had a couple braid high diver set ups put together last year and could not get them to produce at all not once! I used 50lbs power pro black I think on 10' gander mtn dipsy rods with convector 45's. Is this set up OK and it seemed like I was tangled with my low divers more often then not. I use wire on low divers set on 1.5 mag diver and high braid at 3 mag diver. In which order should I deploy them? Are those good settings andopen to any suggestions on how to make these produce. I did eventually switch to four wire divers with better luck but don't want to give up on this tactic quite yet.

i run the 4 wires myself..as far as letting them out id let the high out first..but you will need to learn to set them either way..in other words if your high diver gets hit your gonna have to set it with the low still in the water..sometimes it helps to hold the low on the opposite side of the boat while you let the high out..also turning the boat to get the high started..the lows are rarely an issue to set

As sad as this sounds but don is correct, kidding of course Don. We do the same thing. I would really think about running 4 wires, our best rods when the fish go deep.

I would run a regular diver for your high diver on braid.

This is what I do, mags set on 1 for low divers, regulars set on 3 for high divers. Some guys like running 4 wire rods but I still like having braid rods. During mid day I have had good luck pulling the wire and running braid with long leads for negative kings.

i second running the regular dipseys for your high divers set them on 3 low divers on 1 , when setting the high divers over lowdivers ,flop the diver out to the side as far as possible, hold it for a minute til it tracks out then let it back, slooooowly i run 4 divers all the time, the high divers ussually rock right away in the morning then slow down then the deep divers start going. i ussually run high divers 125 to 175 back this range always seems to produce fish.. jimbobber

Same here - I run regular divers on the high's and mags on lows whether I'm using wire or braid for high's. I run the big rings on the high divers though, or a Walker mag with a standard weight in it.

There are days when the currents screw things up and I can't get 2 out on a side without tangling them. Could be a function of the big rings on the high's but it doesn't happen very often.

Another vote for mags on 1 on wire, reg on 3 for braid. And just as JIMBOBBER said if your wire/low diver is already deployed make sure you get the braid/high to the ouside/in front of the wire/low or if braided diver is already deployed set your wire diver inside/behind the braided diver.

But just as important is to make sure that you dont let them out to fast this may be where your tangles are coming from.

Most guys get them started and leave the drag loose so they creep out.

I ran 4 divers for 2 years before I got riggers and never had issues with tangles.

I ran mags on 1.5 on the low divers with mono/8 foot rods and regular dipsys on mono/10 foot roads on the high divers. Inside rods were completely flat and high diver was one notch up.

When setting the high diver I would just move up in the front of the boat a few feet and put it in the water and then wait til it gets outside of the low diver. Then set the clicker to creep out and it will stay outside of the low diver. If your not tangld in the first 20 seconds its not gonna tangle unless you make a wicked turn or your letting it out way to fast.

I dont run 4 divers anymore but now that I run along meat rig we still use that approach at times. Stand in the bow and get it in the water and started and out away from the other gear then move toward the transom and set it in the rod holder.

I agree fully with the regular divers for the high divers, they are awesome when steelhead are around and do well for kings in the morning. If you have a current hitting your beam then running the high divers can be more of an issue with tangles than it's worth. I don't usually run the high divers out past 100 loc so it stays out of my inside board. When resetting high divers around deep divers I like to set them right off the middle of the boat and thumb it to where i want it then shut the bail and put it in the holder- it will find its way to where it goes without tangles..............don't turn until it has had a few minutes to realign.

All of the above when setting the high diver remember it has to pull itself out from the boat. SO once it is running set the drag and let it creep out. Since for me they are a Steelhead and shallow water only use they never see more than 100 to 150ft out. I won't even take them out of the cabin if I am running a 300 copper as they meet way too often. My language and personality go south about that time as well LOL.
