I'm a junkie. I start here a few days in advance. Check and see if any storms are predicted.

http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html (today)

http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day2otlk.html (tomorrow)

http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day3otlk.html (2 days from now)

If there are storms coming obviously waves are expected. These guys are REALLY good at what they do. Yellow = storms are coming. The areas do change from day to day and it adjusts but they're pretty good.

The day of. I check the radar:

http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/full_loop.php

Then I move over to weather underground forecast & scroll to the bottom of my local weather underground page & check the wind speed at the local light house weather station.(high winds always means bigger waves than they say.) I type 45007 into google and see the bouy data/wave height. On top of that if its light out actually view a few web cam's.

http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=45007

Then after all that is done. I check the national weather service marine forecast in 4 zones around my port. In shore & 5+ miles out.

I also check

http://hint.fm/wind/

and this... which is the water current map.

http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/res/glcfs/currents/glcfs-currents-avg.html

AND after all do all that. I go fishing and grumble about how off they were on their forecasts.

Fishing from a 17 ft I check all week leading to the weekend I am going out. I use grand haven steelheaders web cam, wave forecasts. If an evening trip you can see from the web cam onshore.if forecast says 1 to3 I don't go I've had a few 4 and 5 footer ruin the trip.I've also seen forecast change overnight, with a front coming through.so many variables, safe fishing and tight lines to all.

Unfortunately there is not just ONE site, I use several. While I glance at the predicted wave forecasts, I concentrate more on regional weather reports, wind reports/forecasts from several sources. It's tough to rely on only one site for a dependable forecast. I've been burned too many times by not going based on predictions, only to look at a webcam, or a live feed from a bouy that contradicts what the forecast predicts......you can never arm yourself with enough information

Yeah because i am going fishing this weekend friday, saturday, and sunday out of whitehall and they are calling for 6 to 9 footers already and it kinda bums me out! So i was wondering ifninshould wait to see what happens or cancel the trip all together. Its a toss up for me. So any advice from you guys helps and is greatly appreciated!

Okay yeah i was going to say ill give you a bump on the radio but you will be quite a ways north of me. And when you say that the weather will be manageable what do you mean by that because i actually have an 18 ft. Starcraft. Thanks for all the input guys!

Manageable differs from one captain to the next, all about your time on the water and how comfortable you are in different conditions. I do know this, if the forecasted conditions for Saturday are rougher than I'm hoping for, I have no problem playing horseshoes, washers and taking care of a dirty thirty...always another day to fish

That's about all you can do. Cifer through all of the information you can get your hands on, and make your call. Worse case, you're there and still having fun. While we all want to troll the big lake, if the weater doesn't allow there's always the harbors at some of these ports...
