Priority1 Posted May 12, 2012 Share Posted May 12, 2012 (edited) I spent most of the day Wed & Thursday getting Priority1 ready to rock. Friday the over the hill gang hit the water to check out the boat and set some lines. The boat ran flawlessly. I only had it in the water 5 times last year because of a shoulder injury. I hope to get back to my regular game this year. My shoulder is doing fine and the time on the water gives me my needed exercise. All of us were a little rusty but we wore most of that off. We did manage to box 11 eyes and had a quite a few throw backs and fish that just didn't hook up good. The throw backs are unusual for Au Gres this time of year. The little guys are our future. We tried some lines high for a while but the down and dirty was where it was at. Bouncers and meat run at .9 to 1.2 was what seemed to work. Glow chartreuse, Copper, silver red white, and silver purple. We set up near Pt. Au Gres and trolled N. We tried water depths from 22 to 32 but the 30+ was where it was at. The water temps are a bit cold at 54F on the surface. The fish are somewhat lethargic and at the sloooooooooow speeds don't hook up well. Sharp hooks are a must and the slow speed is so important. When it comes to speed don't think close enough will be ok. Sorry no pics. Thanks to Mike Veine (aka Trophy Specialist) for his excellent and honest reports. Trophy Specialist Posted May 14, 2012 Share Posted May 14, 2012 Saginaw Bay has has several huge walleye year classes in the past four years. There are going to be a ton of three year old fish this year that we'll have to measure a lot, early in the season, but will mostly be keepers during the summer. There will also be a lot of two year old fish too this year that we'll have to sort though. The next four years on the Bay will likely offer some of the best walleye fishing ever though.Capt.
