flyman013 Posted September 10, 2011 Share Posted September 10, 2011 My Evinrude is having issues. I can start it cold with starting fluid and it will run like a top until I shut it down. But once it cools down again, it won't start without starting fluid again. Bulb from fuel tank pumps and gets hard, but still no start. Any ideas? There is a "primer solenoid" on the engine, but I am not too sure of it's function. Anyone know what this does, or if it could be part of the problem? If so, anyone know how to check if it is operating correctly? I guess I should mention it's a 40HP Evinrude 2-stroke. Thanks for any help. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I don't smell gas when I am cranking. I pulled both carbs out and soaked them pretty good with carb cleaner and they seem to be much cleaner. flyman013 Posted September 10, 2011 Author Share Posted September 10, 2011 Aaron, we were both right. That primer solenoid had a diaphram in it that was ruptured. The rupture allowed a heavy stream of fuel to the carbs, flooding them. Should be an easy fix, except for the fact that I can't get the part till Monday. Thanks again for the help!
