Fishing in Ludington

Recommended Posts

I will be staying on my boat at the Ludington City Marina from this Saturday, the 3rd through the following Saturday, the 10th weather etc. permitting. If anyone wants to get together to go fishing and maybe share expenses, you can text me or call my cell @ 231-598-0473

I'm up now, weather doesn't look good. Lot's of wind for the weekend. A storm with lightning has been coming in. A boat crashed on the north pier tonight, ambulances there, hope they're ok.

too many people mark their GPS return point within the peir head -- not a good idea, while in a storm to follow a straight line through a breakwall -- you tend to lose that battle. Make your GPS return waypoint about 100 feet out in front of the breakwall entry and you should be fine.

That light is so stinking hard to pick out with all the lights behind it. I agree there is no excuse but it happens. I grew up there so I know what to look for and still have a hard time seeing it from a few miles out. Look for the tiny blinking green light against all of the white lights. Everyone doesn't own a GPS so that doesn't help.

I didn't own a GPS until I sat on Lake Superior ( 6 miles out) in the spring for 6 hours totally twisted due to some thick fog that rolled in, and a compass that wanted to spin. With the Fog horns now inactive (got to love self service) -- we were stuck for hours until we could spot the faint glow of a city off in the distance. $89 GPS from Gander Mountain -- I love it, and can't believe I haven't had one until now.

A gps is a great tool when used properly. Set a point between the pier arms and one out from it if you want to use points for reference. When coming in, run to the point outside and then plot a course directly to the point between the pier arms. You cant go wrong that way. Also, the plot trail is the easiest way to get yourself back in. You go out, it leaves a trail, just follow it back in the same way. Fool proof.
