Radio and wiring

Recommended Posts

Now to figure out why the radio shuts off when I try to run it at 25 Watts. I would assume it is for the same reason that it shows low power for no real reason. (This could take a while)"

I assumed the battery was low the first time I had this happen, I got home and checked them. 100%.

Any ideas??

Anyone that can help fix this (I have no idea what I am doing with wiring) will recieve a free dinner, beer of choice and a fishing trip:)

If you are open next week, I get out of school at 2:15pm Mon, Wed, Thurs and would be willing to come take a look. I'm by now means a master but I have done some wiring in my day and have had some classes on it. From the sound of it, it is probably not getting the power it needs for one reason or another.

Are you runing a ground wire to it from the battery? That would be my first gues or power lead is not getting enough power, id try running wires directly from battery with a fuse, that way if there is any electrical failures you will still have a working radio for help. good luck!

With all things electrical...check the ground. Simple and often the source of electrical issues. If its not the ground and both connections are good along with the battery, then its probably the radio that needs repair....If you need a replacement, id recommend an iCom. Therye top notch IMO....Also, dont cut yourself short on the antenna. Spend as much as you can afford on it. A good antenna makes a big difference....But that doesnt sound like your issue.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

my first (guess) would be a bad ground. but if you have a way to check the battery, use the same guage and check the wires going to your radio and see if you are getting 100% at the radio. or just try running wires directly from battery to the radio. run both wires, this will tell you if its in the wireing or the radio. i run my radio wires from the battery anyway with a inline fuse. you could just have a corroded connection somewhere. good luck and good boating.
