Paulywood
I know this is a little late but thought it might help someone out. Fished in front of Little Creek in 45' friday night night. They weren't real thick but we managed 70 in about 3 hours. Seemed to come and go. The ice was 6" thick and completely clear. You could see bottom all the way out to the dropoff even in the dark. Kind of freaky.

Priority1
GJ Nick. Do you use a light? I never fished em hook and line. We used to scoop up a lot of them after ice out. They just don't run like they used to. I guess they do get some decent runs in the UPs Carp River.

EdB
Sounds delicious. It's has been many years since I've had a fresh smelt dinner. We used to go to Pt Pelee every spring until they shut the park down for fishing.

Paulywood
In my experience it hasn't mattered where you were along the northwest shore as long as you had a light. My grandparents cabin is on the old Legion land and we usually fish out front. If not I like to fish in front of the creeks.
