installing tracks

Recommended Posts

I just got my two 18" traxstech. I'm really pleased with how solid they seem. When you install them what type of backer is best. Do you go with the backers from the website or would wood work all right. I thought about using wolmanized 5/4?? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I used composite decking material for my backers. I cut the pieces to fit under the whole length of the tracks. I might use them for riggers in the future and wanted to be sure they were is strong as possible. I went with the composite due to less chance of rot and lack of voids as compared to plywood. It is very easy to work with.

I would go with a metal backer instead of wood. Simply because of durability. Dont have to worry about it cracking or twisting when it dries out.

We used 1/4" aluminum plate under the gunnel of our boat when we installed our tracks. If they come off, so is the side of the boat!!!
