GRAND HAVEN -- If PETA can't protect horses in Holland, the animal rights organization is going to try to hook the public on safeguarding fish in Grand Haven.

The national group on Wednesday asked the National Park Service if it could take control of the iconic Grand Haven lighthouses, where it would serve faux fish sticks in a cafe there and inform people about the alleged torment fish endure when hooked or netted.

Earlier this year, the park service declared the Grand Haven lights were available under the National Lighthouse Preservation Act, which allows the transfer of ownership to groups to preserve the beacons.

A representative for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said the light would serve as the national headquarters for its fish empathy project.

The center would display a 300-square-foot quilt that pays tribute to the billions of fish needlessly killed for their flesh or abused by anglers, PETA said. The group also would open a cafe at the lighthouses serving faux fish sticks and other vegetarian dishes.

And every visitor 12 and under will be given a free plush toy fish emblazoned with the tagline "Fish Are Friends, Not Food!"

PETA has tried unsuccessfully to snare other lighthouses, which are available to federal agencies, state and local governments, nonprofit corporations and community development organizations.

I would like to form a group of vegatable lovers to combat the PETA group that kill and otherwise harm millions of friendly vegatables every year. Don't these people have any idea how much it hurts the plant to have it's fruit picked. Or to have its head lopped of to make one of these people a salad Plants have feelings too and they create Oxygen something we all need with the proper campaign we could get them to stop eating entirely then they would starve and die and our problem is solved.

Remember a few weeks ago when the President swatted the fly? Whatever one's political affiliation, most people probably thought “good shot!†Well, here’s quote from a subsequent story off the Associated Press:

WASHINGTON
— The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the flyswatter in chief to try taking a more humane attitude the next time he's bedeviled by a fly in the White House.

PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside.

"We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals," PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. "We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals."

Ya can’t help chuckling!!!
