The lake was 1ftrs and would go to 2ft chop and back to flat calm. The bugs were biting. A few boats out both deep and shallow. I heard radio chatter making with occasional catches out deeper. I fished 90-136 fow. It was getting hot out.

I was watching one of my T44 boards with my 300 cu move backwards and I thought it must be sliding on the line. Fishing solo I grabbed the pole and figured I would pull it in an adjust it. That didn't go as planned. The line was hooked on something and I better figure out how I was going to retrieve it. Then IT pulled back, the 25 minute fight was on. Again moving stuff around to get him in. All the time it felt like I was fouled hook or maybe just a very hooked on to someone's old copper line. As I worked it closer I could see it was a large salmon. I could barely get it in the boat. But I was successful. An 18lb-9oz king. I also caught a 3# king a couple hours later. What a day!

1/1, King, 18#-9oz,(7:40am), RV mag blue jeans, 300cu, 2.3sog NW trl, in 111fow

Nice catch! We were in Montague yesterday afternoon and only got 1 small steelhead. July and better fishing can’t come soon enough.

    cryptonite paddle
    white paddle
that was basically all we could get em to bite
no... we did have a beast king smoke a hi-dipsey our 220 with frog spindocter but it broke 40 pound mono leader and left with the fly on a big run
    trolling direction didn't matter
our biggest fish of the evening was a 27 pound male
gonna give it a try again in the morning
hope cold water keeps moving up in column and can get action on 5 and 10 colors

  4. Made a trip out of Saugatuck yesterday after noon. Set lines at 5 pm and fished until 8:30 pm.
Started in 140 and worked out to 210 basically straight out and ended up 3 miles north. north west troll was best 2.9 to 3.1 mph
first Hit came on the rigger 81 down on #5 mongoose J plug  8 lb king 154 fow 30 ft behind the ball.
second hit came on wire dipsey with 10 pro troll white paddle and Canadian Ketchup yogurt fly set at 2 190 out. 5 lb Lake trout. 180 fow, wonder bread dipsey.
third hid came on the rigger again same set up as the first J plug. big rip had him on for about 30 seconds and came off. guessing big king 188 fow
4th hit came on Half core. bloody nose streak. 195 fow water. Steelhead around 10 lbs.
got out to 210 and circled back in for another hour and no more hits. hit the dock at 9pm

Great report. Sounds like we may start seeing more kings in the cooler soon.
    I can’t wait.

  5. I run a Lund 1750 rebel with the same sport track. My advice is to look into a track system such as Cisco or traxstech. I ran traxstech tracks and vert tree last year, and just bought berts ratecheting holders this winter for my dipsys. I run my riggers, which are walkers, off my tracks in a traxstech swivel base. The nice part of the track system is I can move things around to suit my needs. Also, adding new holders doesn’t require the purchase of new bases. My first season for salmon was last year and I learned a lot. Mainly, dipsy rods put a ton of strain on the trees. I did a lot of research prior to setting up my rig and what I found was most people prefer to run a track vs mounting directly to the sport track itself. Hope this helps and good luck.

I have a Lund with all Big Jon rod holders and 1 tree. They all work marvelously. I am glad the tracks work well for some. I love my rod holders. And I advise to get the big Jon net holder too for your Lund.
Good luck rigging and tight lines.

  6. Thanks for the report. We fished Port Sheldon 6/4 from 6am to 11am am and experienced the same conditions including both the surprise 2 footers and the thick boat traffic. We started north in 155 and got our only keeper coho on the starboard rigger on the slider down 60 with a standard wonderbread. We caught 2 shakers on the 5 color and lost 1 nice king on it. It had a standard bloody nose on it.
We went back out from 11:30-2:30. The lake had calmed down to nothing. And we out as far as 220 without another bite.

  7. The water column is still cold. Generally people have been catching cohos in the top 40 from 110 out to around 200 feet of water and kings last weekend were in the top 60 around 230 feet of water.
Good luck and tight lines. I may be out of Port Sheldon Saturday. Give me a shout.

  8. Hi Dan
We decided to go out of Port Sheldon yesterday. We went 7 for 8 with 2 nice Kings and 5 cohos. Fish were caught in 30-40 fow on everything but riggers. That included green jeans on a dipsey, netminder spin dr and free hypnotist on a dipsey, 2 on 3 color with Yeagar bomb, one on a red and gold thinfin.
We got pretty wet but had a great morning.

  9. Got blown off lake; pulled lines 12:30. Noaa, windfinder, iwindsurf, etc all lied. 2-3s were actually 2-4s which would have been fine; instead of dropping down to 1-3s built up to 4-6s. NW wind instead of NE predicted.
1 coho couple miles south of pier in 35’on 2C on bk/wh alewife. 8 lines out, no other hits.

I will be out later this morning Dan. Happy to share info with you.
