  1. This is not new, and these “negotiations” are not going to go well for recreational or charter fishermen.

The Coalition to Protect Michigan Resources (CPMR) is a gathering of fishing clubs and conservation organizations that pool our money together to pay lawyers to speak for 1 million fishing license purchasers…vs 40 tribal licenses.

And the tribes will win with this woke BS we are
    Living through.

Go to their website and paypal the CPMR what you want.

But, when you don’t, don’t badmouth the guys that fight this decree every 20 years (yes, the same legal team from 1980, 2000, and now 2020). They have been frustrated, pissed off, and now worried they will become the scapegoat of “the reason there are nets at every tributary in the Great Lakes”, or “why are there nets covering Saginaw Bay?”

  2. It has been a busy stocking season and today, The NWMI Fishing Club conducted Avian Predator Control on Duck and Green Lake. 8500 nice 7-9" lakers in both lakes.

Thanks to Matt, Kile, Dave, Sheila and John T! Your time is valuable to all of us and we appreciate your donation of it!

  3. Today, The NWMI Fishing Club put our salmon net-pens into the Boardman. We will be getting 75k Kings on Thursday afternoon (best guess on the timing right now). When I get an ETA on the truck, I’ll post it here.

If you are interested, grab a kid and come out and watch. There are 3 footbridges close to the net-pens location at Cass and Grand Parkway (Traverse Connect Building), and pretty good parking availability as well.

  6. Hello all, if you have fished for salmon in East or West Grand Traverse Bay and want to be able to claim you are a giver, not a taker, now is your time.

The NWMI Fishing Club has used much of their membership fees, weekly Fishing contest revenue, and our donated money to repair and emplace the salmon pen nets and feeders for the Boardman River. We are looking to recover that money we have spent and you can help. This request applies to weekend anglers such as ourselves and Charter Boat Captains and fishermen statewide.

We have DNR Coded Wire Tag data that proves a 3%-4% return of spawning salmon if they are acclimated with the river pen nets. It's only a 1% return rate just dumping them into the river. If you put that "return percentage" on the upcoming stocking of 75,000 salmon in May 2022 , we can expect 3,000 fish return with the use of pen nets versus 750 without in August/September 2025/26.

Please go to the NWMI Fishing Club website homepage to the "PayPal Donate Button" and donate to our general fund and help us recoup some our expenses, and Thank you.

  8. Last night on Lake Leelanau (12MAY2021), our weekly fishing league had its first event of the year. The weather was beautiful and the winds were low at less then 5mph.

16 anglers came out to participate for their luck at the largest walleye by weight and the largest pike. 3 anglers were able to catch walleyes with no pike brought in.

Matt Tallman was able to take first place with a 1.43lb walleye with Les Dennis taking home second with a 1.10lb walleye. Due to no pike being weighed we were able to pay out two places. Zach Crawford was also able to bring a nice .99lb walleye.

Several undersized walleyes were caught and many smallmouth bass and rocks bass too. Thanks for participating!

Reminder, come join us next week, Wednesday May 19th at Long Lake, 19MAY2021, Crescent Shores launch, 6 lines in to 10 pm, lines out.

Weigh your 1 biggest walleye, or 1 biggest "other species" could earn you some bragging rights and cash.

$10 entry fee per angler, and at least 1 person on the boat needs to be a NWMI Fishing Club member.

Registration starts at 515pm in the Crescent Shores Parking Lot. Membership packets will be available too if you need a member in your boat.

Weigh in will start when all boats are accounted for (est 1030ish).

  10. Summary of Cisco in The Crisco:

1st place combined bag (1-man Cisco limit plus 1-man lake trout limit) Total weight= 24lbs

    2nd place combined bag = 16lbs

    3rd place combined bag = 8lbs

1st Heaviest Cisco only (Champion) bag = 16lbs

Largest Laker Side bet option winner was 3.8 lbs. There was a heavier laker caught, but that fish was not part of the side bet option, so did not receive a payout.

Overall, Cisco size and numbers were noticeably down from the last few contests we have hosted on East Bay. Water is still cold 41-43 degrees and no real big pods were located. While cleaning them, they were full of small alewife (1.5”-2”). Good to see that bait, troubling to see Ciscos loaded with them.

Great fish fry was served up and good payouts were handed out as well.

After the wind calmed and the sun came out, it made for a nice morning. Cold start however.

Next event is Lake Leelaunau on Wednesday evening (12May). Biggest walleye and biggest pike will pay. Should be the “real first day of spring” and a nice evening out there.

  14. Well, nothing significant to report. A few guys were on the north and south piers. Couldn’t tell if they were doing any good. Didn’t see any movement or nets swinging.

We launch at 1000 headed with the wind south with a 6 line spread. 3 flatlines, a 2, 3, and 5 color. 3 bodybaits and 3 DW super slim spoons. We zig zagged from 30’ to 50’ on the way to Arcadia. Caught on 15” coho and released.

We headed back north into the wind and had two good rips with no one home and a third questionable rip and run. Best marks came on the 60’ and 63’ contours, but nothing really biting.
