  1. If you are using Okuma reels the “sticking” is the factory drags that come with the reels. They pack them full with grease assuming you’ll be in saltwater. Go buy the tuna Tom carbon fiber replacement drags. Easy install with no grease. Best money you’ll ever spend. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  2. Yeah I was scared of flooding transmission breather lines and ruining my exhaust or heaven forbid my car shuts off. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  3. Both other holland ramps are also in pretty bad shape. I have a 19 foot fiberglass. And a midsize SUV couldn’t get the boat off the trailer. Quite a disappointing Morning. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  4. Are you saying you also find those kings out deep or steelhead only? Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  5. Thanks guys. On two occasions on the way out I’ve had guys check my radio but once on the water... radio silence. I’ll see if I can find a power adjustment! Good idea Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  6. Started the day out at 1pm. On our way out a crew was nice enough to give us a pointer of running out to 120. Tried that for a few hours with no marks or bites running a wide verity of presentations. On a hunch from the cold water moving in we started our way in towards shore where we made our way to 80’s. Started to get steady bites as long as we were on a NE or E troll. Hung out there most of the time picking away at cookie cutter kings and cohos. Nothing to write home to mom about. Understanding we had to drive 3 hours back to the east side we started our troll back in to the pier. That’s when it happened. Upon getting inside of 70 the hits were fast and furious all the way into 50. Although most were the cookie cutter less than 10lbs fish. Lost one good one at the back I would assume was in the 12-14lbs range. All in all 12/14 on the night ending at 7pm. Glow spoons with some orange and green worked best. Nothing on flashers or meat. Funny thing was we never marked a fish all night. Guys out deep were marking fish but no bites. My assumption the north blow messed up all the fish and the big ones are out deep but not biting. A buddy in holland had the same smallish fish results as me in shallow. On a side note... what radio channel is everyone using? I switch between 68 and 72 most of the trips making calls every hour or so. In my 4 trips this year I’ve NEVER gotten an answer from anyone. I’m not sure if people want to keep quiet about where the fish are, but if I’m on fish I will ALWAYS speak up. It’s kind of scary to think if something happens out there nobody is listening. 7. I’ve been fishing for 10 years. I wouldn’t over think this. 20lb is the standard and big game is a great choice. The bigger lines like blood run flea flicker is if you’re getting a lot of fleas as it’s designed to be thicker and has a coating on it. The problem is the thicker you go the less action you get. Hence why dan keating uses 12lb stealth set ups. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  8. My boat is smaller than what you are looking for but the trophy 1802 and 2002 post year 2001 are great bang for your buck! I got mine for $6500. With the money you save you can get some top of the line gear. They’re a no wood design which is what I like. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  9. Fish about 10 times per year. My Trilene Big Game Lasted 3 years with no break offs. For $33 bucks you can get a big spool of 20lb. It’s strong, flexible, and knot friendly. Use it as backer as well. Great bang for the buck. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  10. Last year I bought a boat which the trailer breaks were shot. Do you guys have a places to go in SW Michigan that could replace the hubs brakes lines and surge brake for a reasonable price? Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  11. When you did the pump replacement. Did you do the $120 kit that has that base plate or just the simple one with the gasket and impeller? Also on the diagrams I’m seeing two filters on this engine? Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  12. Purchased a 2005 mercury 125 saltwater (2+2) last year. Ran it fine a couple times last year no issues. However this year since I have no real history on the engine I’d like to replace “everything” for some peace of mind. So my question to you guys. Besides fuel filter, water pump, thermostat, plugs. What would you guys replace on this engine if you didn’t have hours or history on it. Compression on the cylinders are all well within spec. I’d like to clean all the carbs out and possibly re sync them but I’m not sure how hard that would be. Local mechanic said this type of work would be an easy grand. No thanks. Or if you have a reasonable mechanic in west Michigan that’d be another option. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  13. Does anyone have a good/ cheap prop repair place for the Detroit metro area? My merc 125 prop has seen better days and needs some work. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App

  15. That’s pretty weird that he went out that far... by the way what channel is everyone using? Last two trips I’ve gone out I can’t seem to get a response from anyone but I know the radio is brand new. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  16. Started off the morning around 1100. Blasted right out to 225 and set up SW bound. Fished for around 5 hours in every direction at every speed between 2-4 mph and all the way out to 280. With only 2 shakers to show. Ran all different types and colors of spoons. Lake calmed down quite nicely the only second trip I’ve taken with the new boat. Would have been even nicer if my Biminis clear windows hadn’t yellowed in storage then we would have been even warmer. Gonna try again next week. 17. Just purchased a new boat with a full enclosure. I’m looking to continue fishing till she ices up. Does anyone have any reports or suggestions for this? I’d prefer salmon but lake trout will do I guess.. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  18. Yeah mine were stuffed as well! Keeping the stocking down seems to be working. Let’s hope they keep the numbers down for a while so we can get a full recovery!
  19. HOT HOT HOT. Finally got off work early when the waves were forecast to be good for the little 16’er. Blasted right out to 90fow and basically immediately after setting we started taking hits. We were only out for three hours and took around 11 hits. Only kept 4 because I physically can’t give away all that fish haha. So what worked? Divers back 91 and 121 with 8” flashers and flies with longer than normal leads. I want to say more than 3 wraps but I can’t remember (30” ?). Also super bright slim spoons on any presentation down 35’ to 55’. The fish seem to be slapping at the flies and getting hooked funny so if you’re losing a lot I’d make the presentations easier for them to zero in on.
