  2. Good discussion, I remember when the salmon were introduced, we had overabundance of smelt & alewives, also remember each port town had a fleet of commercial fisherman, and catching 2 perch on a double hook rig was common, for the spring smelt & sucker runs, my grandpa said this is God's gift to the poor - anyways, I think if we want to see the Salmon rebound, we might have to look lower down on the food chain - more phytoplankton & zooplankton to feed the small bait fish? We all remember when Lake MI started to clear up - had to do w/ the invasive mussels & now dealing w/ Spiny Sea Fleas - maybe in the Baltic where the invasives came from there is plankton that is resistant? For the dollars spent on planting, I would like to see some put into spawning & rearing habitat to improve the natural reproduction? And maybe some more planting from NW Pacific stock, to improve the genetic diversity? On a good note, the last two years have seen the Lake level rising, am thinking this will be good for small fish habitat, and help the salmon & trout?

  3. Some of the flasher brands do not have the angled rotating fin - they still rotate if trolled fast enough - and possibly if the meat rig is not too heavy?

Question - do most guys use a loop knot & tie your fly directly to the split ring on the flasher? or use a snap or ball bearing swivel? thinking w/o the swivel on the fly end would give better action? not sure -

Tom just got the spoons in the water last night. Had the Black Ops & Head Hunter Glow on the riggers at 100ft down in 174ft of water. No knockoffs on the Black Ops. At 6:00 pm had a knockoff on the Head Hunter and missed it. At 7:10 pm we got or 2nd knockoff on the Head Hunter Glow and 30 minutes later I netted a beautiful 16.1 lb 31 inch splake for my brother Mike. You can bet that spoon will be stuck on that rigger all year now. Thanks Tom beautiful spoons. Will be purchasing backups tonight. Thanks again Tom Cline

  5. Hi JDH - you are definitely on to something, after the 1st light bight, the fish are still there, possibly going negative or hugging the bottom - so trolling fast to trigger an instinctive strike makes sense - we've had luck w/ our Magnum size glow spoons 8:30-10:00am, way after sunup, but down deep & trolling 2.9-3.2, we haven't tried 4mph but if we could maybe run a heavier ball to keep it down? Okay, good luck, thanks for sharing the idea -
