  1. I have been told that they will kick you out of the Snug Harbor launch if they find you sleeping. The launch is actually seperate from the rest of the park.

    Nick

You are right, they will give you the boot if they catch you sleeping. It don't matter if you are in the car, truck or boat. And they do patrol it, a couple years ago several of us got kicked out. The odd thing is you can stand around in the parking lot and shot the chit all night and they don't care, just don't try and catch a few winks or you are in trouble.

  2. I know we tried to run a Bottom Line on the back of the boat and a Hummingbird at the driver's seat and were picking up false info on both units. This was several years ago so maybe the problem has been fixed.I don't remember what the out put was on the units but there was a problem with interference between the two.

As has been said, you really don't want to go longer than the rod for landing reasons. Get some rubber bands and fix your slider where you wqnt them so you won't have to worry about them hitting the cannon ball and tangling your other line. There is a company that makes a spring loaded clip to go on your line to fix the slider in one spot also but not sure who make's it.

  4. Nice bird Steve. I have a question. I thought turkeys roosted standing on top branches, not hanging from them. Is this a bat turkey? :D:grin::lol:

I don't know about a bat bird, but he sure was a sneaky sucker. Never knew he was there or how long he was with in range because I was concentrated on the other tom that kept gobbiling at me. I am sure if I had not had the blind he would have busted me long before I saw him. A pop up blind is the only way to go.

  5. Well after getting my brother his bird opening day I figured putting my tag on one should be pretty easy, Wrong. I could not find a bird that wanted to play untill this morning. I hit the woods about 5am and was all set by 5:20. Had out 3 decoys, 2 hens and a brand new jake that I just got. At 5:45 the first tom sounded off front and center about 75 yards away. By 6:00 I had 4 toms talking and figured this would be a good morning. The closet tom flew down about 6:10 and I figured I could get him to come in. Well everything was going great untill 6:20 when 4 deer came running into the woods snorting up a storm, tails held high spooked really bad. They ran right through the woods and spooked all the birds, not a pep to be heard. Looked out the side window of the blind and see what caused all the trouble, coyote was walking down the edge of the feild. He was headed away and I hit the box call and he turned around and came right back to me but I didn't have a clear shot, he finally got my wind sent and headed across the feild. As I just sat there debating what to do a tom sounded off. Game back on. I figured out real quick the only call he would answer was a few soft clucks off the slate call. At about 40/50 yards he hung up. I had 3 differend deer meander between us but he would not budge. I gave him the silent treatment, hoping he would come looking for me. Well he sounded off again off the right hand front corner of the blind and I refused to answer. I heard noise, sort of a peping noise out the left window of the blind and when I looked here is the tom pecking my jake decoy tring to pick a fight with him. Needless to say I about chit, here is this tom 25 feet outside the window and my gun is lying in my lap. Thank god for the mesh windows, he never saw me raise the gun and put an end to my season. I did end up putting several #5's in the head of my new decoy but it was worth it.

    Stats are:

    Beard thick 9 1/2 inches

Spurrs 1 1/4 in. both sides

    Weight 23lbs.

  6. Good Deal Steve,

I'm glad to see that you and your brother had a good time and you helping your brother get his first turkey. Where did you get it and where bouts did you see most of them. I know I herd some just on the other side of your dump from our woods. My brother has his hunt now to and will be hunting there also. Well good luck Steve hope you get one to.

The first ones were stright west of the notrh end of the dump. The other 3 were all in the back feild edges. One on your side further back, closer to the river and 2 were over in our swamp back by the river. My brother got his bird on our dad's property.

  7. My brother and I took up Turkey hunting 3 years ago and he had not scored a bird so I told him I would call for him this year and try and get a bird in front of him. Well we met up at 5 am and headed to the woods. I knew about where they should be roosted so I put up the pop up blind and decoys about 75 yards away hoping to coax a tom to come our way. Just as it is getting light we have a hen purring fron the roost. I answered her a couple times with the box and once with the slate thinking she may fly down and hang around. Wrong answer, she went silent and we don't know where she went. About 6:15 I hit the box call and had a tom answer right back. He was behind us so I lifted the blind and spun it so we had an open window facing that way. The tom and I talked back and forth for a couple minutes before he and a jake cam into view about 50 yards away and wouldn't come any closer. I finally got on the box call hard to see what he would do and another mature tom with a paint brush for a beard appeard out my window about 35 yards away. Told my brother to take him, he MISSED. He had a bad case of turkey fever LOL. We moved after that but nobody wanted to play. We packed up and moved a couple miles down the road to a spot where they have a couple dusting bowls. Told him I would just hit the call and if nothing answered we would just set a while and see what happens. I hit the call and nothing responded so I got really loud with it to let the birds know we were there. I had 2 hens and a jake breeding a hen set up in front of us. I figured I would take a cat nap and told my brother to keep an eye on things. My eyes no sooner got closed and he elbows me in the side and says there is a turkey out my window but he isn't sure if it's a jake or a hen. I look out the window and here is this jakle all pissed off about something, his head is beat red and he is clucking like mad. I inform him that yes it is a jake anf if he wants to he can shoot it. Up comes his gun and after what seemed like forever he finally pulls the trigger and the jake pills up. The bird was only 25 ft out side the window, he couldn't miss. All in all a great morning, now it's time to get mine.

Hay Caz there were plenty of toms out there, at one point I had 3 birds talking a once. They are all still there at this point, that's where he missed the big one at.

  8. silver one

Sounds like a carb rebuild is in order. Either the needle is stuck and not shutting the fuel off or if it has a float, the float is sticking. Either way getting it fixed is a lot better than taking a chance of a fire and blowing the starter or motor.

  9. Now come on Rich thats suppose to be buck fever, not turkey fever. Were you hunting on your lease next to us? Leave a couple birds for my brother and I, we both have the second season. Let me know if you are seeing many on our side of the fence and maybe I can meet you out there and let you take a poke at them. What time are you normally out and about, I think I am headed that way tomorrow and I will drop that bow off to you.
