Made a trip to the east side yesterday. Fishing from the bank. Didn't have a lot of time to fish maybe 6 hrs at most. Went 1 for 3 on steelhead. Some bait robbers kept steeling my eggs and I never did manage to get one on long enough to see what they were. Had a few on long enough to know they were small. If I was on the west side I'd figure they were young trout but I rarely ever catch young trout on the Ausable. Kinda thinking small walleyes but who knows.
At any rate it sure felt good to finally catch some steel again. It's been toooooo long!
I may have a grumpy look on my face in the pic, but trust me I was extremely happy to get this fish landed. Had fresh fish for breakfast and getting ready to have some for dinner
Very nice steelie!

last night mt buddy pulled a 26lber out of the mud right in front of Saugatuck - after Friday I told myself I need to just be done for the year but man its hard knowing the beasts are still out there! problem too now is I think water is warming along the shore which ought to bring any bite to a grinding halt...
Yup, we went out there as we knew we’d find fish, do every time out deep.

Thanks! Yes we were, it’s nice to be able to actually get a calm day to do that!

Knowing it’s been very slow in close we went out to 220 before setting up. Ran mostly flasher/flies and meat rigs. Ended up 4 for 5, 2 steelhead, a nice laker and a nice coho. All hits came on a West troll and between 230-250 FOW. Meat rigs ran were all Musslehead: Blue Bubble, Ain’t No Joke. Fly was a Glass Alewife Fireflies behind a 10 in white UV with green dots Spin Dr. Also got the larger steelhead on a Green Lightning 4 in Silver Horde. Beautiful day out there and it was flat calm and hot.
I forgot to add this picture. There were many monarch butterflies out around 240 FOW as well. Pretty cool and man the surface temp was so warm out there!

4/5 in 300 fow. All fish were down 90-100 for us. Downriggers were the only option. Carmel dolphin went on the largest Steelie and all others came on flounder flounder. Thru back a small laker. All action just before dark and only lasted at an hour. All were
On a south troll and slow around 2.2.
Forgot to add that I can’t pull this app or less on WiFi. Same thing happened last year. Anybody else having this problem?

Thank you for the info! If they keep hanging out there I may just head down that way Sunday afternoon instead of heading out deep.

Planning to head offshore tomorrow as the weather forecast is really nice. Will probably drop in at about 250+/- fow. Might go deeper. If anyone is also going to be out there, let me know. Or give me a shout on the radio - Channel 68, boat name King Possible.
Supposed to be flat.
Good luck! I’m planning to head out that deep in Sunday afternoon.

1 for 3 trolling Holland Harbor with the kids today. Once we learned that the kings weren't out front but instead deep into the channel and even into Lake Mac we did better and managed our big fish of the year and my son's largest ever (he reeled it in). 38.5 inch male weighing 23.5 pounds came on size 4 chrome red head jplug in 26 fow down 15 on rigger inside Lake Mac directly out from Parkside Marine at around 3.00pm.
Great work!

Thanks, it was rougher than crap and no hits. We did not go any deeper than 100 FOW though.

I spent last week in Ludington. Fishing is decent but the number of kings are down. There are some huge kings from 20 to 30lbs + caught every day. Here is a report of our last 3 days. Friday 8-10 was our best action of the weekend. We went offshore off the project working 350 to 540FOW. We had double digit hits but lost quite a few and landed 7. It was a mix of steelhead, coho's kings and Lk trout. The fish were coming from 40 to 70ft deep. We went back that area on Saturday and only had 8 bites but we landed 7 of them. On Sunday, we decided to go north and fish off the point but our spread on a first troll north was not good and we did not lift a rod. Most other boats hit 1-5 kings that day. That area was producing some nice kings in the first hour but got really tough after sunrise for the boats fishing there earlier that week. Once the sun got up, we pulled lines and ran offshore off the point to the 39 line hoping to find some action like we had south. We trolled southwest from there to the 45's out and got 2 kings, one 20lbs+ and the other much smaller. That offshore water to the north did not hold the fish the south waters did earlier that week. We got a 20lb+ king everyday offshore so that is a good sign for the coming weeks. Our best rigs offshore were a 150 copper with a DW double orange crush. 225 copper with a DW super slim superbread. A 300 copper with a yeck blue holographic dolphin. A low diver out 110 ft with a 10inch DW Kevins girlfriend spin doctor and green gasoline meat rig. A high diver out 200 ft with a 8in Kevins girlfriend and prickled sunshine fly. Riggers at 55 with a moonshine sarge, at 50 feet with a mag big jon cosmos spoon with a regular cosmos stacked 10 feet above it both went a few times. A DW super slim double orange crush as a free slider on a 70 ft rigger was also good. We only fished the morning and did not fish evenings. Good luck!
Thanks for the detailed report!
