  1. Depends.

If I am tournement fishing I will set a rigger first and at the same time let a disey out with the drag set to let it tic back while the rigger is going down. Reason is that alot of times the two hitting the water at the same time will trigger a strike which has happened to me many times while the rod is in my hand. Especially if the fish are high in the water colum. You can usually get your riggers fishing almost as soon as you set down and then let the long lines out. Not everyone does this way but alot do. hope that helps you. good luck.

    We have a winner.

We did it the same way in tournaments. Like you say sometimes we would have a fish on before we would even reach for another rod. I still set the riggers first to this day because they are fishing faster and it's what I'm use to.

  2. Had a rare day off from church, actually my first in over three years. Went to the blue water chapel at St. Joe except the water wasn't blue and it was cold.

Sister boat ended up 6/6 with 5 coho and a small king. All we could manage was one 11" coho had we not been looking at the board when it hit - probably would have missed it as it was barely hooked.

Skipped past the launch and trolled a flat I know, ended up making one short pass and got an 8# hen steelie, a 9# hen laker, and lost a smaller steelie. So after four hours on the lake in the cold we get in the shelter of the river and hook up three fish in 20 minutes. Weird.

Fun day to be on the lake. Not every winter you can get out "twice" in February - I've had Augusts where I haven't been able to get out twice.

Good job! What was your sister boat doing to make them more productive?

  3. Right off of Profishient Charters facebook page.

"Fishing is insane right now out of Holland and Saugatuck. 25-40 fish landed in 3-4 hours is about the average right now. Anything you put in the water, as long as it is a Spin Doctor and Fly will get hit immediately. We aren't going to put up any additional reports until things slow down a bit because it is beyond being ridiculous at this point. Good luck and be safe!"

  4. We are slipped at Brians Marina again this year, the last few years we have fished out of So Haven, for convenience sake but the price of slips drove us back to the Joe. In the 70's and 80's I slipped at Whispering willows and then at Molhagens in the channel. Left the big lake for a few years fm 96 to 2002 then got back into it with a small boat. Upgraded in 2009 and needed a slip. St Joe has more fish and is about 1/2 half the cost for a slip than S.Haven.

So if u want to overthink it I have made St Joe my home port. Hope we can hook up on the lake just holler at the MC squared on68 if we are out will pass on info.

Wow Molhagens, I sure miss that place. It sure was a great place to do business and just BS with guy's. Sounds like you have made your rounds. Does Dennis Neidlinger still have a slip at Brians?

  5. Being that the last year I fished out of St. Joe was 1995 its a new shop for me and u r correct Charlie is a really good guy, in the past I always went to Tackle Haven, but not anymore the fishin hole has my business.

Guess I was over thinking things again. I read your signature and it says your home port is St. Joe and figured you already knew about the Fishin Hole. I thought there may be a new tackle store in the area.

  6. It is Broadlows fishing hole, 269 982 3474. Really nice people and they will spool your reels for while u wait, I had to replace 2 300' of copper this morning, my partner really made a mess last night, and I wanted to run copper. Tackle Haven doesn't open til 7 and these folks are up early like all the good fishermen I know.

Oh..I thought it was a new tackle shop. The Fishin Hole has been there for quite a few years. I know Charlie and Theresa very well, and have fished with Charlie a few times and have had some very memorable fishing trips.
