  1. Dont know yet Jason, still have to see. I do know I like Fishlander blue/green dolphins. When I develope a favorite lure its hard for me to abandon it, or maybe im becoming to big a creature of habit...

Either way id still like about six more of these spoons and even just getting blanks or ones w/ lots of paint missing will work.

  2. warrior makes a bunch of different size spoons these days

there new size standard spoon is not the std. size fish landers was

I am not positive but you might want to have a look at their "flutter spoons"

If this don't work send me a pm I can send you mike steffes cell phone number I am sure he can give the exact answer

What I want is spoons with the EXACT same blank Fishlander used. If the only way to get them is to buy old used Fishlander spoons then thats what I will have to do. Not interested in trying anything new or improved or different, just want what I have already found to work great for me over anything else thru lots of trials.

Thanks for offer, but I am 99.9% sure he (Mike) was one of the guys I already talked to that told me it was the EXACT same blank used on old Fishlander spoons, just the paint they use has been improved.

  3. there's a few companies that have identical blanks

I understand that and its why I believed so easily they were the same blanks as the old Fishlander spoons. Now which co. is using the same blanks as Fishlander used if any, or where does one buy that same blank that Fishlander used to use?...cause its not Warrior.

I have never used a Warrior spoon so I cant pass judgement on them...yet. But I have a pretty good feeling its gona be just like a Stinger NBK vs. a Dreamweaver NBK kinda thing.

  4. Nice to see them admit it there anyways...why they couldnt have just told me that instead, id feel better than being lied to buy a spoon to try. Instead I heard it was the EXACT same blanks. Cause I made it pretty clear with three of them I only wanted the spoon if the EXACT same blanks were used...now time to find out personally just how much more better this new blank is. Cause im not just gona take their word for it again. cmon warm weather!

  5. Some of you may be familiar w/ Warrior spoons taking over for or buying out Fishlander spoon co. or whatever.. Well I had read they are using the same blanks as Fishlander used to use. So desperatly wanting and needing more blue/green dolphin Fishlander spoons (im sure most of you are thinking whats the diff. a blue/green dolph. spoon is the same no matter who makes it and what blank is used, cept I disagree) I ask the guys at the Warrior booth if indeed it is the exact same blank Fishlander used. Was told by three guys that it is EXACT same blank except the paints have been improved. Get home and compare the two and these are NOT the same blanks. The Warrior blank is about 1/8" shorter and has far less octagon dimples than my old trusty Fishlanders. Now if I had not been told it was the EXACT same blank I would not have bought it. Luckily I only bought one to check and see first before getting anymore. Now if this ends up working for me just as good or better for me than my old worn out Fishlanders (which I doubt cause no other blue/green dolph. works as good for me yet as the Fishlander) then no problems...but clearly not the EXACT same blanks as they had said.

  6. Good news is, if you move to P.S. area and cant make it out of port due to low water levels Holland and Grand Haven ports are only bout 30 minutes away and should see you on the lake. At the cost of an extra half hr. to an hour or so tho...both better fishing ports anyways in my opinion.

  7. I remember a time when we had 2 youngish couples aboard as clients fishing, and we caught 14 fish that day, just ducky. But, the climax came when both gals caught 2 fish, and yes, it was a double-bubble, when both those 2 rods just happen to connect with 2 fish on each rod. A total of 4 of the 14 total fish, wow. Thanks to free sliders on both rods. BOY, those gals were excited, as both me and my mate were. Never had that before nor since. Payoff was those gals landed all 4 fish, and gave me and the mate a quick double-bubble "flasher" in thanks. Those menfolk also laughed in jolly and said nothing in return. We also got a Ben Franklin each at the end when cleaning the fish, nice, and quite memorable imho. Just an old fisherman remembering some of those unforgettable days of past, excuse my risque post.

    And then what happened?

  8. I prefer to use the ones that have the red or black wax like stuff witth a slit cut, but they dont ever last long enough for me to be cost effecient. Have alberta clippers and they work but are bigger so more drag on the line an i think some fish might see them due to their size and be dettered when/if they see that thing 6ft. or less in front of a lure... Does anybody know what kind or type of wax stuff (it is a wax right?) is used on the swivels that they make those with and where to get some to make your own fixed slider swivels?

  9. You don't say, interesting read....Welp! guess I will be the first to admit i did NOT know this and had always been told and had thought the opposite of your findings was true. Never thought to look myself that's to much work.

However I have always believed in leader lengths to be a big part of presentation. Which is why I have swim noodles with doubles some triples of pre made leaders in one foot increments from 3 to 10 ft. and in three different lb. tests. (15,20,30) and I will experiment and change this up if things are not going like I feel they should be. Some find this a bit excessive and over the top but it gives me piece of mind.

I let the fish tell me what leader length/lb. test they prefer that day (most days I cant go wrong with anything under 10 ft., but some deys they do get a little more picky).

I have a new imagination on how they (flasher/flys) are running on long line set ups like lead core and copper now. If they are hitting good on those kind of set ups then that would give good reason to lengthen the flasher/fly leaders on my dipsey and riggers if they weren't popping like the long line flasher /fly set ups.

Also maybe good reason to speed up if using spoons to no good avail. while long leader flasher fly set ups are killin em cause they are on a faster more aggressive bite?

  10. Mikey, I know it's a lot different when ya have kids involved. You were lucky their mothers weren't there.

Cha that was another thing. I was hoping I could just bring him to the er pay whatever it cost and be on our merry without any mom drama being involved. But they just had to have her permission before they could help the poor guy, and i had to make the after midnight call to this kids mom and explain the haps. Luckily she was very cool about it, almost to cool and not what i was expecting at all. She invited me out for drinks a week after actually.

The other thing that i was scared of for a lil bit was having to drive my car to the hosp. with my left hand attached to this kids right hand and when we walk in the main question is gona be "how did this happen?"...Was not looking forward to trying to answer that.

I was excited at first to finally be able to have the chance to try this new hook removal "trick" i had learned and seen done so effortlessly.

  11. Unfortunatly tho this trick does not allways work as easily as these men had made it seem. Least on the few attempts of one instance a few years ago by me.

We were enjoying a weekend up north at our cottage and my son had brought one of his friends along. Well it was late at night and I had just introduced them to fishing topwater along the docks at night before i headed to take a shower. It wasnt long and i could hear Cameron screaming Dad, Dad come quick. I run outside to where the boys were and his friend is on the neighbors dock with the other half his body thrown over into the neighbors boat and crying and screaming. I go down and look to see whats going on was he had casted into the neighbors boat, got it stuck and tried to reach in to remove it but had gotten one of the trebles in his finger and the other trebles still attached to the boat..ok so pull the hooks out of the boat and go inside and attempt the "trick" shown above on this kid who is nervous, jumpy, scared and crying. First attempt did not work and i put the poor kid in more pain and screaming more. Second attempt found the "other" treble hook from the lure now inserted deep into my thumb. So we are attached at the hands by a double treble popper lure. I pull the hook out from my thumb with pliers cause well it didnt take long to realize the rope and pull "trick" was not gonna work here. In summary I ended up having to drive him hours away to the nearest er/hospital at around midnight. Doc numbs his thumb quick pull with pliers and all is back to normal...Then soon as we get back home and i mean before i had even gotten out of the car this was now around 3am, both kids simultaniously ask me if its "ok" they go fishing!

And This is only how big those hooks were..

  12. From the Big Water edition Precision trolling book that i have thats about 5 yrs.old it shows a 1# dipsey with ring with wire (82 feet down @ 210 feet of line out) going about 2 feet deeper than braid (80 feet down @ 210 feet of line out) at the max. depths they illustrate per feet of line out on a zero setting. Now from what im looking at BIG picture and roughly, Wire reaches 2' to about 5' feet deeper per feet of line out on the various dipsey settings.

Question 1 i have of maybe many...

If you put the same hot presentation you had on the wire dipsey onto a braid line dipsey at the same depths and settings it should work just as good. Yes?, No?, and Why?

  13. "Take the clicker off. I know the guy that bought those reels." :)

Now I remember who you are.

And i also remember you know the guy that has to clean your boat. :thumb:

  14. I do the usual winter prep things like going through all my tackle and gear, restringing line, cleaning boxes and electronics. I sort through all the lures that I don't use and put them up for sale. I spend a lot of time on online auctions and attend local auctions looking for good deals on new/used tackle and equipment. I like to purchase large lots of lures, pick out the ones I want and resell the rest thus getting the stuff I want for free and making some extra cash for more gear/tackle. Some of the items I did real well on:

Scientific Anglers Fly reel for $35.....sold it for $110

Vintage Abu Garcia reel for $35 ....sold it for >$275

Never used Big Jon Cap Pac Elec Rigger with rod holders for $90....sold it for $375

17' Century boat for $235 .....sold it for $700

4 Big Jon Cap riggers with 9 rod holders for $135.....put them on my boat :)

So with a little time and effort I am able to get a lot of stuff to try out for the next season.

If you dont mind me asking...exactly what type of vintage Abu reel were you able to sell for $275?

    Not questioning it...just curious
