  1. Time 4:00 p.m. Started at 60' of water straight out of Grand Haven. Got first pole in water just fine, but by the time I got all 6 out I was in 100' of water. First trip out this year and poles needed some work. Marked 2 fish one on 80' and another in 100' chasing schools of bait fish. Fun to see that stuff on the graph. Hit 120' of water headed straight south all day. Weaved in out of 130' to 100' of water. Three for three day. First fish on Yellow Tail Silver Streak Spoon (still by far my most productive spoon) on torpedo diver cuda 180 feet back 7lb Lake trout. Second fish on Paddle 11 - White-Mountain Dew/Glow Crush with mountain dew fly on large green dipsie diver 180 back 3lb laker. Last fish taken on my wallye board on a Green dolphin spoon aprox 30' feet down 12" small king. Released all fish besides 7lb laker. I only marked 3 fish all day. stopped fishing at 8:30. I'm a little nervous with the number of fish taken and seen on people's graphs. Where are they? Or are they just not in the lake?

  3. That happens sometimes. Its been a frustrating summer on Lake Michigan this year.
  4. Stick with the treble. You won't land every fish. The trick to keeping them on is never to allow any slack in the line when you have a fish on. My wife has trouble with this and loses way more fish than I do. So I told her just keep reeling the whole time you have a fish on. The drag will take care of not breaking the line. Its silly but it seems to work for her.
  5. I did forget one spoon you should also have. You need to have a NBK. Other wise known as a natural born killer.
  6. In my rookie years I made a spread sheet using Excel. I get a picture of the spoon or fly on the internet and put that picture into a spread sheet next to the name. Over the years you realize you only need a few different spoons and flies. The only spoons you need are green dolphin, blue dolphin, bloody nose, and double orange crush. Those are the spoons that day after day produce the most fish. I think most people will agree. Any brand works. I have tried all and nothing out produces the other. The flies you need are picklesunshine and any noseeam. I only run 6 rods on my boat so you can see I don't need a lot of gear this fills my rods up. If you have more than 6 rods you could try carmel dolphin, a hello darlin and a black spoon with green ribbon. Those are other spoons that also have produced for me. I just gave you what it took me 2 years to learn. I hope this helps you. I enjoy sharing.
  7. Anybody have any ideas who could install my fish finder? I live in Grand Haven. I hate to take it to a Marina and get charged $100 an hour. Or is that the going rate for installing one?
  8. I have them and love them....work great!!!!
  9. Thanks for the insight guys. I guess time will tell.
  10. OK, I am a little scared by the lack of fish being caught so far on the big pond. The fishing was fantastic this time last year. I have read many of the fishing reports on here so far this year and I think only one report had some chrome caught. Also not many fish being reported on peoples graphs. It was said that Lake Huron had a great year of fishing the year before its collapse. I sure hope Lake Michigan does not have the same fate. I hope its just the crazy weather we had this spring. I have to say though, I know I am not in the norm when I say this, but EVERY salmon I caught last year had a empty stomach.
  11. Is your last name Grimm by any chance?

  12. The fishing for this time is of year is not normal. The Holland Sentential had a article last week that predicted that the salmon in Lake Michigan will collapse in 2 years. Most of the fish t thaI have caught have had empty bellies and I'm not alone on this. The strange thing though is I have already caught a 20lb king in April. So they have to be eating something. Seems like everybody is catching 15+ fish every trip out. Is there enough fish out there between Holland and Muskegon for this to continue through September? I don't think so. They plan on reducing the number of Salmon plants by 50% next year. They claim that 50% of the kings in Lake Michigan are from natural reproduction. I have a hard time believing that. I am just worried next year the numbers will be down with all the fish be taken out and the reduction of stocking so enjoy the numbers now.
  13. I have been out three times out of Grand Haven. All I can say is the deeper you can fish the bigger the fish you will catch. The only thing I have caught is small coho and one 10lb steelhead on any thing less than 50 feet down. Start out at 140 And work west until you hit at least 220 and fish from 80-120 down and you will catch some nice kings over 15 lbs on blue and green spoons.
  14. This video might be helpfull on how to rig one.
