All I have is 2 dipsies. There is mono on the reels right now. But it needs changed so I was going to put braid on them. But I cant find the website for calculating how much backing I would need. I would like to leave the mono on that's on them. Just don't know how much to take off.Regular power pro in 40 lb and green has worked for me. I run mostly wire now - that is wire deep and slide divers up high.

Just dipsies with rings on. The water is always clear. Are you pulling the magnum dipsies? Go with the 50#. Are you trolling clear water? Go with dull green.

So do you think herring is better than alewife? And if straight herring oil would be better than procure that has more in it like amino acids and bite stimulants?

What scent/attractant do you guys like? Herring or alewife? Or something different. And what brand.
This would be to put on spoons or to enhance meat rigs using big weenie brand artificial herring strips.

How do I get some freshwater anodes to put on my spoons for salmon?

I forgot to say. It just started happening the last couple years. Maybe it's just me.

I think my boat is repelling fish. It's an i/o. Starcraft islander. How could you help with my boat. It's not in the water this year. But probably will be next.

I have a 1995 22ft starcraft islander I/O now. I'm think of going to a 2000 bayliner trophy 2002 120hp outboard.
What should I be looking for when I go and look at it? So I'm not buying trouble.
Does the trophy ride well?

There are 2 launches in Detour. One west of town and one in town. You would fish for salmon to the south out by the lighthouse.

I've never been north of Whitehall during a flip so I guess I can't speak for those ports. I'm pretty sure a buddy of mine gets them in Manistee harbor though

I'm 3hrs from manistee. I use to net them with smelt nets in lake charlevoix when they came in to spawn. But haven't seen them in more than 15 years. Right now if wanted any kind of bait for meat rigs I would have to order online.

When the water near shore turns over they gather around the piers and you can cast net them up

I have never seen them up here in the north. The water never turns over. I'm 2 hours from Frankfort. And that would be the closest I think I could find them. But with no connections for when the alewives are in its pointless for me to drive that far just to check.

Yes i agree its bull . But here are some non dnr issues. The feds plant the lake trout not the dnr. They do it because of the tribal consent decree and a so called effort to return the lakes to a natural state. Here in the tc area it is totally the tribe planting and trying to maintain the Cisco's.
I talked to a for biologist the other day about the Cisco's. He said they haven't planted any yet. But it is in the works. They already have them at the Jordan river hatchery and the tribe has some.
So all the Cisco's now in grand traverse bay all the way to and including little traverse bay are all natural fish.

These are photos I took out of Michigan out door news.
The dnr says they want long salmon to stay because they are the ones that keep the alewife in check. But they are still planting over 1,000,000 lake trout as a "secondary fishery". That's bull. They need to plant less lake trout.
Plus the article said they won't be planting as many king salmon in the northern part of the lake where I fish because they are having better natural reproduction than in the south. And that bull. I caught 4 salmon all summer out of charlevoix. But you could fill your cooler with lake trout. I hate lake trout. Plus we are catching Cisco with stomachs full of alewives.

It's not good for the lake or Michigan's economy. I just won't be fishing lake Michigan anymore for kings unless they come back. Why would I,when I can go to lake huron and possibly catch 5 or more species of fish in a single outing. Might not catch very many but more than lake Michigan
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App -
But michigan is taking more Lakers to plant. Which is stupid. No one wants them.

Must be nice to have such good fishing on the Wisconsin side of the lake. I think I'm selling my salmon boat because it was so bad salmon fishing on the Michigan side where I fish. To many dang lake trout. And our dnr isn't going to cut back on laker plants but cut more salmon again this year. I actually caught more kings on Lake Huron last year than on Lake Michigan.

The other fatality was the one in otsego county on big bear lake. Terry Weber's death was in montmorency-county.

Stay off northern michgan lakes. They are not safe. There were fatalities this weekend and another was rescued out of a Crawford County lake.

Who would I get to check the stringers? I know nothing about fiberglass boats. I probably won't get it anyway. Was also thinking of going to a little bit smaller boat than the islander so it would be a walleye and salmon boat. But the only used ones that I can find that are 19-20ft are lunds.

Ok thanks.I have never seen one on the water that I remember.
