I like a bit heavier spoon myself. Always liked the KO wobblers. Orange is my favorite for steelhead. I've taken quite a few kings using blue and silver or green and silver.
Yrs ago there was a company called BC steal that made a spoon similar to the KO wobblers. Nice heavy spoons for fishing off the pier.
Cleos are great spoons too. I like the glo ones with orange spots. One of my favorites for right at sunrise or sunset.

Wow! Great fish!
Nice to see some big ones are being caught. Kind of getting me excited actually. I'm planning some trips up to Manistee over the next couple weekends.
Thanks for the reports.

Corn Husker,
that fish was caught using shrimp under a float.
Shrimp is probably my favorite for summer runs off the pier. Alewives work really good to. And spoons when the water is the right temp.
I like to use a float rig for the shrimp and for Alewives I use a slip rig on the bottom.

FBD are you talking Kings or Lakers?
I was talking to some guys who were fishing the tournament down at Michigan city back in April and they said they were targeting Lakers in order to get their weights. Seems the small Cohos and Kings being hard to come by everyone is focusing on the Lakers.
The new normal???

Went fishing Friday. Water is very cloudy from the recent rains. Water temps are still running fairly cold. Alewives are in close now.
Only got one today but he was a big one. Biggest one I've caught in quite awhile. Going to grille him over the fire tomorrow. Been doing this honey teriyaki and pine apple marinade thing. Really good cooked over an open fire.

Nice fish Erik - great photo
Thanks Chad,
there was a lot of people out taking pics of the pretty sunset so I set up in a tiny little corner of the pier trying to be as inconspicuous as possible so no one would notice me.

I may have to make a few trips over there this year. Fishing in Michigan waters is getting to be frustrating.

Fished the pier at st joe last weekend. Pretty slow. Couple very small browns caught.
Feel like I must have missed the cohos this year. Maybe an off year. Sure miss the good ole days
Did get some cool pics. I will see if I can upload some.

Yummy!
So how thick was the ice? I've been seeing some guys on the little ponds over here.
Been a while since we've had good ice before Christmas.

Seeing more deer this week.
Still getting warm during the middle of the day but after the sun gets below the tree line it cools off nicely.
Friday evening just as the sun was setting I had a nice 8pt stroll in. He locked up right at the edge of my shooting lane. At the same time another one that I could see came in on the opposite side of me, the down wind side, and it winded me and blew and they both took off.
All in all pretty cool. I love it when I get all pumped up like that. Would have been nice to close the deal but hey, theres plenty of season left right?
Good luck it your heading out.

Too hot.
Opening day in the morning was nice. Since then its just been too warm.
Looks like we're in for a change after tomorrow. Should be better hunting next week.
Good luck to you.

Fresh venison! Congrats!

I decided to just get the 234 hunt this year. I'm pretty excited. I have been seeing a lot of turkeys in my new hunting spot. Seeing plenty of deer too. Thinking this might be a good year for me
Good luck to everyone!
