  1. Got out to do a little fishing with my brother tonight. We started out at 6:15in 110 fow trolling WSW out to 180 fow. Nothing. Trolling back in we ended up with a huge tangle between the 300 copper and the dipsy on a reset. After untangling the two, we finally got a full spread in the water and took a hit in 120 fow followed closely by a second one in 117 fow. Both were deep and off riggers 105 and 90 dn. Pulled lines 2 for 2 at 8:45. Sounded slow all over Grand Haven tonight.

    Here's what worked:

rigger dn 105 green splatterback Ace Hi 120fow 50 back- 13# King

rigger dn 90 white paddle BW Chili Fly 117fow 10 back- 8# Coho

Water temp was 68 degrees 90 feet down, and speed was 2.1-2.3 at the ball. Lots of empty boxes tonight, but it was nice to get out from a few hours.

  2. Hey John,

When are you noticing the tangle? If you are poping the dipsy to change plugs or bring in at the end of the day, it might be coming up into your lines then. A 2 setting can really bring your dipsy way off the boat. I know I run mine close to the boat, dipsy at 1.5 and my board out from the boat maybe 50-60ft. Other lines of boards another 20-25ft outside of that. There have been times when I pop the dipsy that it comes up just inside my board.

It could also be the currents are moving the lines together. You can always try a greater distance between those lines.

    Just a thought.

  3. I have two Magda 20's w/ line counters for sale. They were used as light line salmon rigs for about 1 season. They are 5.1:1 and these have Tuna Tom's carbon fiber drag upgrades. The drags were changed right out of the box. The one is spooled with red 12# test line. Each have the walleye handle still sealed in plastic. Couple rub marks on the reels up by the counters, but both are in excellent mechanical condition.

    $35 each + shipping

I also have a Dotline rod holder. Don't know the model # but it clamps to a rail. It has a spacer to fit smaller rail diameters that can be removed for larger ones. I know it fit my 7/8" rail but I dont know what other sizes it would fit. The tube is metal the base is plastic.

    $10 + shipping

    Thanks

  4. Ran out to 100 fow with the rest of the armada, although I did start north of the stack. Ran wsw then ene. Best water was 110-120 down deep. Went 4-5, with the fifth being a bit of a surprise. 4 kings 5-13lbs and a 1lb perch  Dragged him in clearing lines, all 3 hooks in his mouth, go figure

    Anyways here's what worked

Sigg's Brushed Stainless behind a chrome blue SD on DR, 100 dn- 3 fish

Green splatterback ace hi 50 back on DR, 90 dn-1 fish 1 miss

Here's the weird one- UV blue veggie on 10cl- 1 perch

Started setting lines at 6:20 and had two fish before line were all in. All the hits came with in an hour 15 mins. Lake started getting bumpy, so headed in around 10.

Good Luck and Keep Em' Tight

  5. Been fishing in the BWCA in MN for the last few weeks, but heading to Grand Haven today. What's the black fly and sea flea status? Still need to run the flea flicker or can I break out my light lines again?

  6. Didn't try it do to 2 ships entering/leaving port yesterday. Also we pulled lines and were in the channel before the sun hit the water. We saw the boats fishing shallow but as we came through the area there was nothing that jumped off the screen saying they were going to be shallow. I later heard that 2 were caught between the arms but the bite was not fantastic. Personally, I'm glad we went deeper.

  7. Headed out last night around 5:30, pulled lines at 8:45. Fished 100-160 fow with 120-150 being the best. Speed at the ball was 2.25-2.5. All fish caught were on a ssw troll, all fish lost on a nne troll. Finished our evening 7 for 11.

    Here's what worked:

    Craig's Christmas on 4cl- 2 hits 2 fish

BLL Blk glow screwball on 150 copper- 2 hits 1 fish

Hitman No see um on dipsy 1.5, 150 bk- 3 hits 2 fish

Sigg's Rigs Brushed Stainless fly behind chrome blue SD, rigger dn 50- 1 hit 1 fish
