Everywhere, if you haven't heard walleye fishing on the DR is insane right now. Limits in an hour almost anywhere you go. Fished mid on Tue and upper on Thur (today). I'm still stunned at that fishery. Get there if you have a chance. Plus its an awesome site to see.

fished Trenton yesterday got to Elizabeth park launch at 630 finally got lines wet at 830, what a cluster it was so many boats. It was well worth the wait in line boxed our 15 fish limit with 5 fish over 8 pounds and one 10.6 pounder. Hooked into a monster lake sturgeon that took us for an hour ride up and down the river before finally snapping my pole in half. Here's what worked 1 oz jigs tipped with lunker Finn S fish in blue and black ice.

Steve and I had the bright idea to head down to the Detroit river Sunday afternoon.

We launched out of Whyandotte around 3pm, and fished up river till dark.

Steve ended up only getting 1 Walleye around Mud Island. Darn wind was hollowing down the river making boat control, and comfort a real pain.

The highlight of the evening was just before dark when I hooked and landed a 4' Sturgeon. The fish jumped out of the water about 2 feet in front of me when first hooked, than proceeded to run up and down the river. My 17' Seanymp has a 80 lb thrust Minkota, and I needed all of it to keep up with the fish as she ran up and down the river.

After a great fight we got her to the top and released her boat side. Sorry, but I did not have the camera equipment along, and it was a bit dark for the cell shots.

We tried fishing down river this am, but the 40 deg temp a 20 mph wind blowing down the river made it less than fun for us.

Made the first trip out today for this year. Landed 25 walleye, 1

Perch, and 1 sucker. Best depth was 26 to 27 fow. All colors worked but a glow perch was by far the best. Numbers 5 and 7. I keep a walleye and perch for dinner and they were very good, all other fish released.

Jigged/Handlined the lower channel from #13 south to calf island. Jigged a few hours before the sun went down on the 26th and took 10 males 20-25". Mostly on chartreuse/orange jigs with minnows. Set up for handlining below the catamaran and made one pass up to the cat and across which landed us an additional 4 fish which we released. #11 Clown and #9 Hot Steel on a 30ft and 15 ft lead respectively..

Next morning the mud and wind were worse. We took 3 pretty quick below the stacks then had a trolling motor issue which required the dock to fix. By the afternoon the river was pretty muddy. Went out that evening and handlined a few hours and took two fish. One of which was 27" and got put back. Tight lines.

End up with two nice Walters. Lots of fish being caught right now. From what I could see most every one was using jigs and emerald shiners. The river is just packed with boats. We were in a pack of up to 50 boats drifting a 1/2 mile bend. No issues everyone played nice for the most part. An absolutly beautiful day to be fishing! I took a few pictures of the organized chaos, enjoy!

Yes I was beaten down with another skunk on teh detroit river. I had a chance to hook up with TGAfish and try some mid river spots for 4 hours. not a hit and I have to admit the lack of marking fish is very unusal. Tried from Us steel to great lakes steel. Only heard of 1 fish at the launch all day. water temp was from 36.6- 38.4(USS) Hopefully the will show up soon, we need some rain to change the temps and get them moving.

Steve

The usual gang made our annual pilgrimage to the tittabawasee for the walleye opener. After a good fire and some barley pops Friday night, all eyes on the walleye for Saturday. Woke up bout 5AM was fishing shortly after that. Trolled HJ 12 glass clown and glass perch up and down a nice little stretch of river. Ended the day 8/9. 6 walleye (only 4 keepers), a nice small mouth and one of the largest rock bass I'd ever seen. As a whole we came up way short of the amount of fish compared to last years opener.

Lots of wind and a little snow spitting in the morning. But also lots of fish, some with pretty good size. We only managed two for the weighin, but they weighed 11.4 pounds. I caught a 6.7 pounder jigging up by the US Steel mill. Finished 23rd out of the 39 boats, which isn't bad for two fish. Winning basket was over 33 pounds.

Turned out to be a good time. Friday night on the pier I went 0 for 3 on walleyes. Had a hard time netting them by myself in the dark. I know. Excuses excuses

Next morning I fished the river. Didn't have any spawn so I was using waxies and wigglers. At one of the spots I was fishin a guy caught a loose hen and just let the eggs spill all over. Most of them ended up in the river but I managed to scrape up enough for a few bags. First cast using them I hooked a nice hen. I'm thinkin way cool! Then ended up losing her in the logs Not without a good fight though

A nice guy at wellmans set me up with some steelie skien later in the day. Just enough for a dozen bags. Cool dude! Hooked one more steelhead after that, but believe it or not I lost that one too! I think that one was the hardest loss. She was fresh in the river and really put up a fight. Almost had her beached too. Oh well.

Decided to head back to the pier for walleyes. This turned out to be a good decision as I ended up 4 for 4 on walleyes. I think if I had stayed long enough I could have got my limit, but I figured it was late and theres no sense in being greedy. Heck to tell you the truth I would have been happy with just one

I took some pics. I'll try to get them up tommorow.

Hope everyone else enjoyed their weekend. I know I did

Last fishing report of the year fellas. Found our way out onto the ice of the saginaw river today between saginaw and the z bridge, new spot I have never been to before. Fished 15-20fow. Caught a lot of walleye, too bad 95% of them were not legal. Between 5 of us we caught 5 keepers. Blue/silver jiggin rap #5 was top producer, pink and purple buckshot spoon came in 2nd. I had a good battle with a real dandy that I lost right near the hole, got a look at him 2x and he went bye bye. Ice was not great, 3" for the most part, which is not what I like to be standing on. Anyways, it was a stellar fishing season and a long one this year. I predict that Saginaw Bay fishing will be nothing short of phenomenal again next year. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I tell him we will wait till 11:30am to launch and let the temp get up a little more then the 28 degrees that is was at 9:00am this morning when he called. Also to bring along some salt for the ramp to lay down when we launch. He says I'll go down at about 10:30 and throw some salt then, so it has a chance to melt all the ice on the ramp. I tell him not to do that, as other boats will/might also launch or retreive before then and wash the salt off the ramp before we get down there. Well, I'll let you guess what he did. And who do you think does the "Double back flip" on the ramp? Oh ya, me.

So luckily I'm not hurt but have to launch using the other side with the salt I brought along. So we get about even with the Coast Guard station while idling out the river channel and the CG comes out in their skiff at the same time and checks probably the only boat they'll see all day, us. They are nice enough but never in very much of a hurry. Daves boat passes the inpection and we're off again. Finally hit the river mouth at about 12:00PM, water temp 37. Start out on the bay and the wind which was predicted to be 6 MPH SSW is a good and steady 12 to 15mph and almost due west. We are soon in 2 to 3 footers and taking a few very cold wet ones over the side. We head for the leeward side of the island and try there for about 30 minutes and get nothing. We end up trolling in and out of the river mouth in places where I was catching some nice fish in October using lead core and #5 Shad raps. Running Zuris and Bombers 60 and 80 back at 2.3. Some nice fish in some cold conditions.

But there was a catch to our catch. Brother Dave (because he worked there) noticed on our way out the river channel the first time, that the "Intake Screen" cleaning crew at the power plant was getting ready to clean the screens that fill with shad. They take 3 dumpsters at a time of both dead and live shad out of that immediate area when they clean the screens. A lot of those dead/dying or wounded shad drift downstream with the current and make whatever walleyes in that area go nuts on the feed. We had doubles and triples right before the screen almost every time through.

We fished upstream from our normal spots and struck HAWGS!!!!! with one weighing in @ 12lbs. I was the proud net man for the well deserved trophy. The fish looked like a submarine coming up from the depths
