3for5 in that 80-120fow just north of holland - copp200 spoon was good lowdipsey out 105 went with paddle riggers partook spoons up high and highdipsey ring off our 120 took steelhead 

wow 3 year olds can put up a spring salmon type fight and definitely outpace the spawned out 4 year olds of recent - PUG forgot what pink fillets looked like

It was truly a beautiful night and probably my last outing at least for kings. If I get one of those early October steelhead days...maybe?

had a couple breakoffs on the bigger fish of the night that entailed losing orange boards and whole 9yds which felt defeating (pug tip of the day: never run 20# mono highlines in fall combat fishing)

that 9fow to 16fow was best

FBD had em going real good and PUG appreciated the advice as it took Parker a bit to dial em in

Wind gonna blow 20-30 out of the NE and build.   Dead calm.

Fish gonna be in the mud.  They were.  Fished 3:30-7 yesterday kid had weird hours available due to an orchestra concert tonight, in a miserable pissing drizzle / rain, and kept busy.  Mostly deep thundersticks oddly not Firetiger 18’ off yellow birds with a few slide diver mag moonshine hits.  Riggers took the night off as did spinnies and paddles and j plugs.  Big fish on a moonshine flounder pounder took a two color to over 400’.  Ended up 5/7 on hooked fish and many many pull backs on the boards of 5-10’ then gone before we could grab the rod.  Mostly smaller males with one big chrome hen.

ended up going 8for11 and the coolest part was we hooked some big ole school fall kings that fought nuts - been less of those around this year but PUG somehow put us on a pod - one Male measured 38 inches and had to have been around 20-21pounds - several higher teen hens - what a blast

all our action was in that 10-13fow directory out off Saugatuck channel - PUG just had us making passes - seemed like south troll was a little better - groundspeed 2.7-3.1 did the trick - riggers down 6 with size3 plugs bacl 60-70ft behind ball - 1.5 color with special new blue & green plug my son found from some joint in Maine went a bunch - high lines witj different size5 plugs like green ladder got smoked - dipseys out 20-28 with big ole paddles went 2 or 3 times in less than 12fow believe it or not (these are the bites that came off - lost a mongo hen doing this)

this skinny water fishing is so fun - no sheephead either tonight - BONUS

I have to admit I am not that good fishing near bottom in shallow water.  I wind up with too much of the bottom on my baits.  Yes I do check them often but 20min with a null presentation hurts the effort.  The current was wacky in tight tonight running N/S.

Trolled north and then turned back to south after 1 hour, marked fish again in 45 FOW near the flow of channel water, and wham ... two DRs with Jplugs went off at nearly the same time (#3 green and #4 yellow glow).  Lost one, but the other was a nice 14 lb king in the boat.

Moved out to 75 FOW (11:30 am) and the  lead core with yellow jplug ripped as we watched a steelhead jump clear out of the water 4 times.  We were able to land him, about 7 pounder.

green mag spoons glow in low light, high shine green spoons once the sun was up also fireball on 7 color went twice one landed one broke off 

Riggers were set 90-105 down 

flasher fly didn’t seem to produce for me but I can only assume it’s because I didn’t have them in the right location low diver was out 250 high was out 280 I moved them all over the place I belive fish were very deep (hugging the bottom?) wasn’t marking much . Curious how you guys present flasher flys on dipseys when they are deep , do you just keep sending them back further if you are not getting bit ? Or keep them higher in the column anyway . 

Set lines around 6:30 am in 88 fow looking back I wish I would have hung out in this depth a while but I went on a NNW troll didn’t catch a fish until 120 fow 90 down green glow magnum spoons caught 1 steelhead proceeded to lose 3 fish in a row in 120-130 two on a rigger set at 90 and one on a ten color then fishing shut off just as I was about to head back to port at 10:30 am with one fish , a king  decided to whack the rigger set at 100 with a mag green frog spoon in 158fow then a while later green jeans got hit down 90 . Lost giant something On a 7 color after a good  long fight the  lead core broke still kicking myself for that one I tried to rush the fish in never got to see it though. It’s a real bummer when you have the fish almost to the net and it comes off ! Either way , it ended up being a great trip and I was able to take my neighbor out who hadn’t caught a mature fish until today ! Now he gets why I want to go out all the time . 

We got our two man limit by 9:45am. White black ladderback and any green glow plug all went. Broke off 4 big fish with two to bag quality snap swivels. You get what you pay for. Ended up 10 for 15. Northeast or south west troll angles worked well. 275, 300,325,350 coppers all went. High dipseys early 150-160' back early setting 3. 240-280' back later all went. Riggers 65-75 took fish early. Stalling the presentation to 1.8sog and then speeding up to 2.8sog triggered a bunch of bites. 

Fun catching big kings in September and a couple nice steelhead later in 170fow. 

So I hate fishing in crowds, so at that point instead of being an ass and turning directly into that boats spread we pulled lines quickly and ran back to West Platte Bay where we fished yesterday.  

It was a non stop action from basically 6 pm until we quit at 8:30.  Ended the day 15/20 or so.  All our lines went off between 8:15 and 8:30 as we were trying to pack up and go home.  So we did a lot of releasing right at the end.  Fished 150-200 fow.  2.0-2.3 mph.  Downriggers at 90 & 100 feet with meat rigs.  360 and 400 copper with 5 inch ace high plugs.  Mag divers back 185 to 225 feet with flasher flies.

Were dealing with weird waves.  About a 1 foot chop out of the NNE and about 2 foot rollers from the SSW.  Odd.

Amazing day of fishing!

Mostly kings 13-19 lbs. A few coho and 1 steelie.

One rigger set at 75 down the other at 90 down 

1st landed fish was down rigger 90 down green glow with ladder back 114 fow 

2nd landed fish was same down 90 same green glow ladder back 134 fow 

3rd landed fish was violet plug On a 10 color  150 fow 

the other fish I missed on a diver white flip fin with  blue glow fly I made . Lost that due to a poor knot job on the hook . Very frustrating but also my fault .  Then missed a second fish on the same paddle with a green glow fly I made , that one  just came off I don’t know why quite frustrating I seem to lose a lot of fish in my divers not sure if my drag is too loose I don’t pump the handle I try to keep constant pressure , new hooks also . The reel itself is very sticky drag and old so I’m trying to phase it out . I also lost a very large king off the downrigger at the back of the boat maybe 15 feet away . Also had one come off the opposite downrigger just after . Happy for the success but frustrated losing so many hoping to replacing a few of my reels as they are old cheaper reels .
