I think I saw that Echip version of the Apex was really hot off Oak Orchard a week or so ago Skein. I think they were running it on a full core.
I think those ought to kill them, that UV is why I think the Old Yeller is so good on the deep rigger.

I won some of those at a tournament in June and have yet to use them. I'll be trying them this weekend though. Any tips to these things. They came with a couple Apex flashers too. Do you run these clean or behind the flasher?
Thanks...

Could probably use them both ways. Guys were using the Echip version out of Oak Orchard clean on a full core.

Replace the stock leader with 30 lb mono, keeping the same lead length(+ sharpen stock siwash).
Run them behind a dodger or flasher, watch it dig/dive all over the place.:cool:

Thanks Skeiner for putting on the pics. I've been using Apex for over 30 years, in fact that was the first salmon lure I ever bought, long before I became the Ontario Pro Staffer for Hot Spot. The UV Apex came out this year & I've had some great success with them. UV is the only type of light that can penetrate water down to 500 ft. You don't charge the UV's but any amount of sunlight, even on a cloudy day will do the trick. When you bring them up they look exactly the same as they do under a black light. You can run them clean or behind a flasher or dodger. If I'm trailing them behind a flasher I use an 8" Hot Spot flasher. The best size Apex for salmon are the 4.5 & the 5.5's. Something I tried last year & this year that worked really well is tying on a piece of cut bait on the belly of the Apex. How I do that is instead of throwing a piece of cut bait that's been on an 11" Hot Spot & got a little ragged I'll trim it up & place it on the belly of the Apex & secure it on by wrapping it on with spider wire that's used for tying up roe bags. That kills them & it doesn't affect the action of the Apex. As for the copies I've never found a need to use them but what do they say, "Imitation is the best form of flattery". Apex has been the most consistent lure I've ever owned. As Skeiner said don't change the leader length!
