Stinger Challenge

11 August 2007
at Fishermans Landing, Muskegon, MI

What is the Stinger Challenge?

The Stinger Challenge is a fishing event with everyone on the same playing field. Everyone receives the EXACT SAME lure package at a discounted price! Everyone is limited to having no more than 6 lines in the water at one time. This gives the person with 2 people in the boat the same chance as someone with 4 people in the boat. The lures in your lure package are the only lures you are allowed to use. If you loose one or all of your baits, you are not allowed to replace it/them with another lure from your box.

What does is cost to fish in the event?

There are two costs associated with this event. One is the entry fee for the event($15.00($5.00 go's to big fish pot)), and the other is the cost of your lure package($36.00). The total costs is $51.00.

What does the lure package consist of, and how much does it cost?

The lure package will consist of:

2 Stinger Spoons(Standard Size)
4 Stingray Spoons
2 Magnum Spoons
1 Sidekick
1 Slasher
2 Flies

The cost for your lure package is $36.00, and must be prepaid by 25 July.

What color are the baits in the lure package?

You will not know the colors of your lures until the morning of the event. This is another elements of the challenge. No one knows what colors they are getting.

Can I just pay for the discounted lure package and not fish in the event?

Absolutely not!

If you do not show up for the event, your lure package will be DONATED as a prize at the event, and your money WILL NOT be refunded. In the event you sign up for the challenge and can not make it, you may try to find someone to fish in your place.

When will I get my lure package?

I will have everyones lure package in a bag at the boat ramp, the morning of the event. When the entry fee for the event is paid, you will get your lure package.

Fishing Event Rules:

1 - Entry fee($15.00) is to be paid by 4:30am. I am planning on leaving the dock at 4:30am. If you are late, give me a call, and I will get you my GPS coordinates, so you can get your lure package on the water. I will pm everyone who is signed up and give you my cell phone number.

2 - You are only allowed to fish the lures that are in your lure package. If you are caught fishing with a lure that is not in your package, you will be disqualified.

3 - If you loose one or all of your baits, you are not allowed to replace it/them with another lure(s) from your box.

4 - You may not have more than 6 lines in the water at a time. If you are caught with more than 6 lines in the water, you will be disqualified.

5 - You may not set a line before 5am and all lines must pulled lines by 11am.

6 - Weigh-in will start at 12:30pm. If you get called two times at the weigh-in and you are not there. You will be disqualified.

7 - There is no limit to the amount of people in your boat. However...You may not have in your possession more than a 3 person limit.

8 - You may only weigh in 5 fish of any kind. Chinook, coho, steelhead, brown trout, or lake trout.

9 - Each fish you bring in to the weigh-in is worth 10 points each.

10 - Make sure you know which fish is your big fish before you come to the scales. NO CHECKING AT THE SCALES!

11 - NO CULL RULE - If you net the fish or box the fish you must keep the fish. There will be no throwing back fish unless they are under size.

12 - HAVE FUN!!! This is not a PRO/AM or a high dollar tourney. This is your chance to get out with other members of the site, and run a Michigan Stinger product at a discounted price.

13 - You must be a member of www.greatlakesfisherman.com or www.mistinger.com to fish in this event.

14 - You are not allowed to alter the appearance of a spoon, flashers, or flies in your package. ie...no adding or removing tape, or adding paint.

I would like to thank Michigan Stinger (www.mistinger.com) for providing us with these lure packages at a discounted price. You can check out all of their spoon colors and the rest of the products they offer on their website.

I have changed one rule. You are not allowed to have more than a two man limit in the boat.

It does not make any sense to set everything up so you can fish it as a two person team, and be allowed to have a 3 man limit in the boat to sort through.

Priority1
05-04-2007, 08:56 AM
A two man limit??? 7:00 AM is too early to be back in port drinking beer.

A two man limit is 10 fish. If you have 6 Kings and start targeting Steel, or Lakers, you would have to release any Kings that may be caught in the process. Just presenting a scenario that I think is legal under the present rules, but may cause some Kings to be released, or culled. A three man limit, as the rules were before the change, would help somewhat. A long drive with a three or 4 man crew, and a two man limit, may limit participation. I'm NOT b----ing about the rules, and will participate even if you go to one rod and one man limit.:)

GLF
05-04-2007, 09:42 AM
The goal is to make it so everyone has the same chance to win. A two person team is only allowed to have a two man limit. They are at a disadvantage to everyone else who has 3 people in the boat and can sort through more fish to weigh in.

After a discussion with a member, I have changed the rule back to a no more than a 3 person limit in your possesion. Some people are will be traveling from a long ways away to fish. Makes it harder to swallow the costs of the gas, when you are only allowed a two man limit in the boat.

Are we still playing poker at this one? Also ive never stayed at that campsite but since were gonna be fishing there 2 days we might as well stay in muskegon, wondering how much it is and if they have cabins or anything like that or just tent sites. Ill take any information on Hotels close by as well.

I was wondering about the State Park N. of Muskegon. I'll probably sleep in the cuddy and hit the State park for the 3 Ss. How are the conditions @ this park? In Manistee I sleep in the boat or truck bed, right in the launch parking lot, then use the State Park for a shower etc. Is any of this possible in Muskegon? :)

Paulywood

I have been told that they will kick you out of the Snug Harbor launch if they find you sleeping. The launch is actually seperate from the rest of the park. Fisherman's Landing is pretty cheap (Like $10 or $15 a night for tent sites). The tent sites are just a large open grassy area. They have very nice shower/bathroom areas. Last year we just setup camp in a big area and hung out together. I think that Caz slept in his truck. It worked out really well.

Nick

You are right, they will give you the boot if they catch you sleeping. It don't matter if you are in the car, truck or boat. And they do patrol it, a couple years ago several of us got kicked out. The odd thing is you can stand around in the parking lot and shot the chit all night and they don't care, just don't try and catch a few winks or you are in trouble.

GLF
06-08-2007, 06:43 AM
Frank, there are two types of camp sites at Fishermans Landing. Ones with power, and ones without power. Like Nick said, they have clean showers. If you get back in soon enough, they have a dock that runs parallel to the channel, and you can tie your boat up without having to pull it. The dock is "first come first serve". You may find a spot on the dock, or you may not.

Frank,
Trust me they will kick you out. I been there and done that before. You will be better off to camp at fishermans landing at the tent section. Its only $15 and it has a fish cleaning staion and great showers. You have to give out a $20 bill for the card to get in the camp to. But you get that back when you go home.

Possible solution to your limit dilema. Hand out zip ties with your lure package. Place zip ties on your first 2 man limit and then keep as many fish as you want to fill out your boat limit. Only weigh fish with zips. This way you solve both issues.

Yes this does allow for a team to possibly bend the rules, but really, there are so many ways to cheat in this if somebody wanted that I don't think it's an issue. Trust is an all or nothing thing.

Just a humble suggestion from someone who does travel from 3 1/2 hours away:)

The dead line to sign up is over! I have placed the order, and I am not taking any more teams.

Those who did sign up will be getting a couple of "exclusive colors", and possibly a third "special color", in their lure package. These colors are not available in stores this year.

Because of the exclusive colors and possible special color, I may not be able to post a preview picture of the lure package on the net.

I will be sending out a pm to all challengers next week.

On the 6 line rule, are you counting a slider as a line? If sliders are allowed and NOT considered a line, maybe the rules should read 6 rods. Just a point of order. :)

Mike,

Unless something changes for me by the end of the week I may not make the Saturday event. I'm leaving Thursday for Oregon on business and won't be landing in Detroit until Friday night around 10:00pm. It is a 3.5 hour drive for me after I get home. I won't really know until Thursday night late or Friday morning if we are leaving early from Oregon.

I will be there Saturday afternoon to be in place for the Sunday event.

If you can get someone to take my place any buy the lure package from me that would be great. I may be able to send someone in my place.

Let me know.
