View Full Version : Bottom Paint
I have a fiberglass boat that will be slipped all season. I need to repaint the bottom before it is put in the water in the spring.
Any particular brand of paint I should get or avoid?
How often should the bottom need to be repainted?
What sort of prep work should I do before I paint it?

I know you could have found this too, but I've seen this guy actually do the work. He's a little, um, whats the word, weird, but does nice boat work.
This should take you to the place with 3 topics (well 4 but painting a new hull isn't an option here.)
1.Introduction and starting the process
2.Applying ablative anti-fouling paint
3.Epoxy Barrier coats
I have a friend with a 30fter slipped in Muskegon that does it every year to his and I'll have to ask him your questions and relay!

I keep my 24' in the water all season also. I use the copper based bottom paint from Boat US. I usually power wash it at the end of the season, then again in the spring let it dry and then I roll it on.
I also clean and repaint my outdrive at the same time.
