Boat Mechanic Question - Engine Coupler

I need to change the engine coupler on one of the engines in my boat.

Do I need to pull the engine to change it, or can I get it by removing the transom assembly?

Engine has to come out. There is no way to replace it by pulling the transom plate. You have to pull the bell housing to get to the coupler.
