I bought a 24' Seaport, the biggest boat I have owned and quite a step up from a cannoe. It has a hard top on it which I love. If it rains sneak under and hang out in the semi inclosed space. The previous owner had a swimmy noodle that he cut lengthwise to put over the open side of the roof, to avoid conking your head on it. The roof sits right at eyebrow level for me being around 5'9". I figured "padding? I don't need no stinking padding!" so the first few times out it didn't use it. Around the 4th trip I had a bucket hat on so I had almost no perriphial vision. The carpeting is what I was judging my "duck spot" by. Well the carpeting starts around 4inches UNDER the roof. I for some reason darted up toward the dashboard while standing and racked my temple area full speed into the edge of the roof damn near knocking myself the f*ck out. My knees buckled and once I regained my bearings I went to get the noodle for the roof edge. I do know where the roof is now.
