After every winter, I always have the itch to get the boat out and fish. I always started fishing St. Joseph as soon as the ice was out. Its the first to open up every year. Anyways...my fishing partner Rick and I were tossing baits in the river when I hooked into a big fish. While fighting the fish, the boat drifted out into the middle of the river. After about 15 minutes I got the fish up by the boat. This being the first trip of the season, I did not have a net in my bass boat yet. The net I normally carry would not have been big enough anyways. So, I look around and see a boat going by that had came off the big lake. I start yelling at the boat to net my fish. Rick starts sheeshing me and telling me to be quite. I think he was a little embaressed because we were in a bass boat and caught a carp :) All I was thinking about was a Master Angler award. I did not care if I was in a bass boat or not. So I start yelling at this boat again. They are kind enough to come over and net my carp for me.

The carp is huge and will not fit in my live well. This thing would not fit an any bass boat live well. So, I tie my anchor rope to it and we head to the boat ramp, carp in tow. We get to the ramp a I put the fish on the boat and head accross the river to a bait and tackle shop. I ask them if they have a certified scale so I can weigh my fish. He grabs a clip board and a form and we head out to weigh my fish. On the certified scale it weighs 38lbs. We fill out the paper work and he heads back inside. I grab the fish and walk accross the river and let it go. As I am walking back accross the street back up to the store, he comes out carrying a camera and asks what I did with the fish

I did not get a master angler award for the fish because I did not have a photo. Needless that fish is just a memory now  After that, I always kept a disposable camera in my boat.
