Used Boat Registration Question

If you purchase a used boat in another state and register it in the state you live in does the registration number change?

Example:

I live in Michigan and if I purchased a boat in Ohio. Ohio boat registration numbers start off with OH. Would I get a new registration number or would I end up with the Ohio number still?

Vessels registered in another state may operate on Michigan waters for 60 days before Michigan registration and numbering is required.

I called the Secretary of State to find my answer. If the boat is registered in Michigan, it would get Michigan registration numbers.
