I went to the DNR site and they said whitefish were in out at Grand Heaven. So me and a few buddies thought we would try it. We knew we were in trouble when there were no cars in the lot. Washed lures for an hour and came up with a zebra muscle or two.
Does anyone have a good website to check whitefish reports? I know I am in the Salmon section but give a greenhorn a break...

John the White Fish should be in heavy in about 3 weeks.

There will be whitefish reports posted here when the whitefish come in.

most of us wait till they are in heavy to report there are a few around but it will be slow for at least a couple of weeks. I was out a couple nights ago and zero bumps there are a few guys going out and some fish being caught.

thanks for the help boys. I guess I will not trust the DNR site and wait until this site gives the good reports.
Is this the correct section?
any tips on lures/rigs?

It's all about water temps, but a good rule of thumb, whitefish runs usually coincide with rifle deer season.

I like to use salmon eggs myself. Single salmon eggs fished off the bottom on a slip rig.
Seems like I've always done best for the whitefish round about the time when the weather starts to get uncomfortably cold. Steelies show up first and then the whitefish.
