I put this in the fish tales as we all know that eveyone lies when it comes to big fish.
However, I would like to tell a story about a big fish that did make it in the boat and actually a true story.
I owned a Bayliner...Ya I know...Don't beat me up for that.......and I and my dad were out of St. Joe in about 200 foot of water. Runing a rasberry Proking on a rigger down 40 foot and a screemer took off. Dad took the rod and fought it in to the back of the boat, I had the net and was just about to net it when the fish read the name on the back of the boat and dove for the bottom. 160 ripped out right then and right there. On the state of the art Penn 209 reel. We spent the next hour winching that fish back from the bottom and getting it back to the back of the boat. Meanwhile, I had just took a nice king on the other rigger and boxed it and reset the rigger. He was stil fighting that fish and finally got it to the back of the boat for the 2nd time. I had the net almost under the fish, again it dove for the bottom, another 60' out. Winch it back again and it got to the back of the boat and we netted it.
We weighed it at Brians Marine, AKA Ralph's Place, if any of you remember that few years, and it tipped the scales at 34 lb 7 oz. Nice King....We cut it as we thought that there is another out there that was bigger to mount. Nice day, was one of the biggest fish to grace the back of my boat to date. I have had many fish close, that one was a memory.
Glad to have dad on that fish that day.
Fathers day is coming.............even if it was not father day, it was a great day!
